Peak Human is a curated audio series taking an unbiased look at health & nutrition. With so much conflicting information available, filmmaker and health coach Brian Sanders sifts through the dogma and provides a framework that unifies all nutrition and dietary habits that lead to optimum health.
World renowned doctors, researchers, and journalists are interviewed to find out what is the true human dietary framework that we should all be eating to live well and free of chronic disease. It is based around principles of nutrient density and uses a combination of ancestral health and modern science.
It is produced ad-free to support the documentary 'Food Lies' (FoodLies.org)

Part 204 - Gabor Erdosi on The Root Cause of Diabetes, Disease, and Obesity
Gabor is a food scientist with a master's in molecular biology. He lives in Hungary and is one of these engineers/scientists who I love talking to who look at nutrition differently. He has a very unique perspective because he worked for big food manufacturers.
He spends almost all of his free time researching this stuff to help people understand how bad these processed foods actually are. He has a large community on Facebook where he shares and discusses this information. He also has some great presentations he’s done you can find online.

Part 203 - Dr. Joel Kahn Thinks You Should Go Vegan
Dr. Joel Kahn is a cardiologist, integrative medicine practitioner and promoter of plant-based nutrition. Having practiced traditional cardiology since 1983, it was only after his own commitment to a plant based vegan diet that he truly began to delve into the realm of non-traditional diagnostic tools, prevention tactics and nutrition-based recovery protocols. These ideologies led him to change his approach and focus on being a holistic cardiologist.

SHOW NOTES:
(11:16) Our brains determine our food intake and regulate our energy expenditure, in a way that works best in our ancestral environment, but not in our modern environment.
(24:33) We consume calories for many reasons, hunger being just one of them. Likewise, satiety is just one of many reasons we stop eating.
(34:40) As a rule of thumb, eat a diet of omnivorous whole foods that are lower in calorie density.
(49:56) Fiber is not an essential nutrient.
(58:35) Nutrient-to-energy is important to health, but once you have adequate intake, there’s not much benefit in taking in more.
(1:04:46) Most people in the US are more susceptible to obesity than others. Whether or not they actually become obese comes down to the environment they choose.
(1:15:31) Blood pressure, on a genetic level, doesn’t typically change as one gets older.

Listen from Episode 1
Lost 60lbs using the nutrition information set forth in this podcast. Completely changed my view of what is a healthy diet. I’m able to eat without restriction by consuming real foods!
Caught In an Echo Chamber
This was a podcast to which I listened starting shortly after its inception. Early on, I really liked it. Some of that, no doubt, was due to my views at the time. Some of that was due to Brian and his seeming interest in getting to the "truth" about food. This, of course, is why he branded his many social media platforms with the phrase "Food Lies." As time progressed, however, it began to seem like truth was no longer the pursuit. It seemed to be more about making money. I have no issue with anyone making money – even a lot of money. Most of us have to work and earn money to support ourselves. My only concern is *how* one makes money. If one makes money by making claims that are demonstrably false and promoting conspiracy theories, well, that’s a problem for me.
Brian has shifted from someone who initially seemed to be intellectually curious to someone who’s now following the tiresome pattern of an “Us vs. Them” narrative. He knows “the truth”(TM) and everyone else is asleep. If anyone challenges his narrative, they are part of “the system” at worst and just ignorant at best. Brian used to say that he wasn’t part of any camp. He said he was “Camp ‘No Camp.’” These days, however, he’s like so many other conspiracy-tinged podcasters and YouTubers. He has nothing new or original to say. He even brought his own sister onto his "show," so that she could interview him.
I listened to a debate between Brian and a YouTuber named Nick Hiebert that runs a channel called “The Nutrivore.” He debated Brian about seed oils. (Well, he wrecked Brian in a one-sided beatdown about seed oils.) Brian had no facts and tried (but failed) to fall back on lame humor, misdirection, and personal beliefs against Nick’s well-researched facts that were delivered in a calm, rational, and respectful manner. Brian now only interviews those whom agree with him. In looking through comments on some of his YouTube videos, I see him reply to those who agree or praise him, but if challenging him (as I have done) on a particular guest or stance, there’s no reply. I’ve suggested science-backed guests and he will neither acknowledge the request nor feature anyone that can quickly and easily debunk his many wrong assertions.
Instead, he runs an echo chamber for those who happily lap up his nonsense, because that’s what they *want* to hear. It’s a match made in heaven. All he has to do is keep repeating the same wild and incorrect claims and begging people to buy his merchandise. Oh, and asking people to keep contributing to his “Food Lies” film that’s been “almost finished” and “coming soon” for around six years. I just looked up his fundraising page on Indiegogo and it shows he’s had 4 Campaigns and raised around $158,000. It also shows the following post by Brian “We filmed our last interview last week!” which was posted “6 months ago.” Here’s a supporter from “10 months ago”: “WHERE IS THIS MOVIE?! It’s been years! You just keep opening new campaigns.”
Broad diversity of opinions
I stumbled upon this show while searching for a guest I’d heard elsewhere. I don’t even remember which guest. Anyway, I went back to episode 1 and have gone through the first 57 episodes with no plans to stop. It is great to have a nutritional/ lifestyle podcast where guests are not all in agreement and the host can discuss different opinions without it becoming an argument.
