    Our interview this month is with Melanie Reid .   Melanie is a journalist and columnist for The Times newspaper.  She broke her neck in a riding accident in 2010 and since then has been a tetraplegic.  Her weekly musings on her life as a disabled person ‘Spinal column’ appear in The Sunday Times magazine.  As well as her newspaper work Melanie is a published non-fiction author and was awarded an OBE in the 2016 birthday honours.

    Our listener contribution this month comes from Gloria Maloney.   Gloria is a poet and prose writer who finds her inspiration during walks through the countryside. She was honoured with first prize in the Pen to Print Poetry competition in 2021 and served as a judge the following year. Her work has been featured in various online and print magazines, including The London Garden Society, Autumn Voices, and Write On!.

    Gloria’s poetry is also included in several anthologies, such as the eBook ‘Lamb Spectator’ by Northumberland Library (2023) and ‘Out of Excuses’ by Quaker Arts (2023).   Gloria's work was Highly Commended in the RSPB's Hengistbury Head Writing Competition in 2021.
