Penelope Tree on overcoming an eating disorder, moving through trauma, and forging her own path

I'm Fine Podcast

This week fashion icon Penelope Tree discusses her very personal battle with an eating disorder and her path to finding hope.

Penelope Tree was born in New York where she attended school. At the age of 16 she was scouted by Richard Avedon at Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball.

Thanks to the encouragement of Diana Vreeland, Richard Avedon and Guy Bourdin, she soon became a top model and in 1968, she moved to London to live with David Bailey and continued to work with him for the next few years until a bad case of cystic acne abruptly ended her modelling career.

In 1981 she moved to Sydney Australia with her husband Ricky Fataar and their daughter Paloma. She worked as a researcher for a TV series called Extra Dimensions, and served on several boards. Her son Michael was born in 1989.

Over the years she has written articles for American Vogue, British Vogue,  Harpers Bazaar UK, and the FT.

She now lives and works in Sussex and has just published her first novel, Piece of My Heart, published by Moonflower Books www.amazon.co.uk/Piece-My-Heart-Penelope-Tree/

She is on the board of Lotus Outreach International and President of Lotus Outreach UK  www.lotusoutreach.org
