Performance measurement and performance management support the implementation of strategies on the basis of performance measures addressing financial and non-financial/operational aspects. Consequently, students will get to know the function of performance measurement and performance management as part of the overall management functions. Furthermore, they have to have a profound knowledge of various performance aspects (e.g., financial drivers measured by the economic value added, customer drivers measured and managed by the customer lifetime value, process drivers measured and managed in the context of continuous improvement programs). Especially understanding financial performance measurement concepts is crucial before identifying operational drivers. The concepts are applied by the discussion of case studies and of presentations to be prepared by the students. Ziele des Kurses: · To acquire an in-depth understanding how performance measurement and performance management help to implement strategies. · To learn how performance measurement and performance management concepts can be applied in the companies by examples given and what has to be considered to safeguard the planned results. · To develop an understanding that financial aspects and drivers are just a beginning for performance measurement and performance management that has to be specified by operational aspects and drivers. Upon completion of this course, the students should have an enhanced understanding and insight of applying performance measurement and performance management for implementing strategic goals. Therefore, they not only know how to measure financial success properly and identify financial drivers, but also relate them to operational drivers, e.g., customer drivers, process drivers. The students recognize that all activities have to be somehow linked to the strategic goals and how performance measurement and performance management systems can support that.
