The Joy of Fundraising - My Own Take on Why I Love Our Work - Episode 35

The Joy of Fundraising - My Own Take on Why I Love Our Work - Episode 35

I discuss where I find joy in our work. As we near the end of many organizations fiscal years, that means reflecting on the year past, planning for the year ahead, and hopefully getting a jumpstart on some early success. Perhaps you’re coming off a great year where you hit your goals and then some, or you might be coming off a year where you came in under budget. Either way, it’s good to step back and remind ourselves why this work can be so meaningful and enjoyable.

Get back in the game!

Sean, please get back in the game! I fell away, but your podcast started about a week before I started in development. I don’t know what I would have done without you. I recommend your podcast to every new development officer I meet. I feel horrible that I didn’t realize you hadn’t broadcast in forever!

Sean Unpacks Complexity

I just listened to Sean’s commentary on the new tax legislation and how it’s going to impact the fundraising community. Here’s the thing... there are a lot of organizations that have tried to do this ... (Looking at you NACUBO)... but Sean did it with an understanding of heart, motivation, value that people derive from donating. Sean seems to understand that this stuff is not just a discussion of regulation and economics, but an issue of humanity, and he exists right there at the intersection between the two. Thanks for your contribution, Sean. Yours is a welcome voice.

Applicable to non-fundraisers

The host is very knowledgeable and his guests are interesting. I worked in the non-profit and academic arena for years. Although I do not fundraise, I believe this podcast could help build a skill set that can help in many fields. Some of the advice given is great for any interpersonal networking and team building settings. Much of it is applicable to actually getting a job as well. Listen to episode 3’s conversation about networking and take notes!!
