Becoming a Full Time Photographer. Five Key Steps with Special Guest David Kovacs. || PCP13

Becoming a Full Time Photographer. Five Key Steps with Special Guest David Kovacs. || PCP13

The jump into full time photographer can be a pretty scary one to make. Timing is everything but having the courage to understand when you're ready to turn your part time passion into a full time profession is easier said than done. In this episode I sit with Detroit area wedding and portrait photographer David Kovacs, half of a husband and wife team "Dave and Ang Photography" and talk through what the last year of his life has looked like leaving a lucrative career in the robotics industry to pursue wedding photography full time. Dave is a humble guy with a keen eye and a lot of talent but his pragmatic approach to making sure he could provide for his four kids along side his wife really set this talk apart. A great episode for any photographer wondering whether or not they are ready to take the plunge and a great reminder for even seasoned professionals that understanding our value, and learning to take the right steps at the right times for our companies may be the difference between success and failure.

PCP10 || Four Foundations to Future proof your Photography Business

Coming in solo on today's 10th episode with some actionable steps photographers can take to reprioritize where their creativity comes from and scale the value they're delivering to their clients. Let's be honest, we're all a little worried about becoming obsolete but the truth is that trends come and go and building a brand on a strong foundation with established and evolving elements is the key to surviving whatever the next trend is.

In this episode I break down four specific, actionable, real steps you can take right now and implement into your brand in the future that will insulate you from being swallowed up and will add value and depth to not only your photography but your client experiences. We all know that the off season just just around the corner. Between wedding summits, photography workshops, educational guides, and prepping for the next year it's possibly more important now than ever to make sure that you're building your company on bricks that withstand future shifts in the wedding and portrait industry.

PCP9 || Setting better boundaries with Special Guest : Charmi Patel Pena.

Charmi Patel Pena is a world renowned wedding and portrait photographer specializing in multicultural and specifically Indian weddings living in New Jersey. Her work is vivid, bold, and compositionally dynamic but alongside being a Nikon Ambassador, educator, and photographer she is also a mom and wife struggling to juggle the pressures of living in both worlds. This episode is all about the lessons she has learned after a year dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic as a mom and business owner and how setting boundaries around her professional life is letting her be more present at home and more creative at work.

It's a huge honor to have candid conversations like this with photographer I so respect but the ultimate goal of this podcast is to educate and Charmi is an absolute class act at giving us all nuggets of wisdom she's picked up on how important it can be to not simply be an artist, but to respect your art and photography enough to put parameters around it. I think you'll enjoy the conversation and as always I'd love to hear your thoughts over on instagram @mileswittboyer or in my inbox miles@mileswittboyer.com or check in at www.mileswittboyer.com

Pulling it all together

I love the way that this podcast pulls together many of the thoughts and reflections I’ve had about storytelling and photography and puts it into words and conversations. It’s also amazing to know there are others out there who see things similarly, and make me feel a part of the “collective!” Thanks Miles for this podcast.
