John is most widely known for his papers questioning widely held beliefs around periodization. In this interview we look mostly at his other work including coordination, rehabilitation and stress. John gives us some brilliant insight into the complex science behind building relationships in rehabilitation and how coordination should be trained and relearned post-injury.

    Performance Health

In this episode we discuss the term Performance Health and what it means to us across the continuum of physical development. We discuss how Performance Health looks in action while discussing it's art and science. We make a case for how we see it fit in the circumstances we each work in. We make regular reference to Xavier Roy's (our friend) recent article in SimpliFaster (https://simplifaster.com/articles/sports-academics-training-medical-school/) and Craig Pickering's recent series for HMMRMedia (http://www.hmmrmedia.com/pickering/).

Coaching female and male athletes - the reality and the assumptions (with Taylor Lorbiecki)

Coaching female and male athletes - the reality and the assumptions (with Taylor Lorbiecki)

In this episode we change the format to an interview. Our first guest Taylor Lorbiecki and co-host Donie Fox are those being interviewed by Tracy. Taylor is an Athletic Development coach working in the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs. She has a unique perspective on sports participation and coaching based on her own sporting accolades. We discuss the real and perceived differences between male and female sports, and athletes. This episode is influenced heavily by Dr. Sophia Nimphius recent presentation on the topic - https://youtu.be/iq6zGfD9s-Y. As coaches of female teams both Donie and Taylor describe their approaches and how it has evolved from their own competing days. We discuss how athletic preparation differs between male and female sports and how that is only sometimes appropriate. We dive into the culture around the provision of facilities and funding for female sports and how that creates more of a disadvantage than perceived and generalised differences between males and females.
