Pilot Marriage Plan Forever or Plan the Divorce Exit [EP93]

In aviation, every flight has a plan. Pilots file a route, brief the weather, and always identify alternate airports in case conditions change. Yet when it comes to marriage, most couples plan the wedding… but never plan the lifetime journey. In this episode of the Pilot Wife Podcast and Travel Life by a Pilot Wife, we’re talking about something many couples avoid: What if we approached marriage the way aviation approaches a flight plan? Not expecting failure… but planning intentionally for the long-term journey — and even considering what an amicable exit might look like if life takes a different course. This episode explores how aviation couples can begin with the end in mind and create clarity around: • Your vision for life at 70–75 years old• What midlife might look like around 50–55• Career, family, and life balance in your 40s• Defining your core values as a couple• Aligning around money, career, and family priorities• And the difficult but important question:If divorce ever happened, how would we handle it with dignity and respect? As someone nearing four decades of aviation marriage, I’m sharing reflections on what truly matters when you look back over the years. We’ll also talk about: • The emotional load many pilot wives carry• How to keep resentment from quietly building• Why clarity actually strengthens marriages• And how to keep children’s wellbeing at the center if things ever change This isn’t about expecting divorce. It’s about building stronger, more intentional partnerships — the kind that can last a lifetime because both partners are aligned on the destination. Whether you’re newly married, raising kids, or navigating the empty nest years, this conversation may be one of the most important ones you have. 2. The Daughter’s Burden: Repressed Emotions as a Pilot Wife

The Daughter’s Burden: Repressed Emotions as a Pilot Wife

Grief is rarely simple. When my dad passed, I expected sadness. What I didn’t expect was the wave of guilt, regret, and even moments of anger that surfaced. I found myself replaying memories and quietly asking questions many daughters ask after losing a parent: Did I visit enough? Did I help enough? Should I have done more? For many women—and especially for pilot wives who are used to managing life while our partners are away—we carry a lot of responsibility. Sometimes we carry even more emotional weight than we realize. In this episode of the Pilot Wife Podcast, I share some of my own reflections while processing grief after my dad’s passing, including the hidden emotions that can surface when someone we love is gone. We also talk about: ✈️ Why grief often includes guilt, regret, and anger ✈️ The “should have done more” trap many daughters fall into ✈️ How pilot wives quietly carry emotional labor and responsibility ✈️ Why we sometimes repress emotions to stay strong ✈️ What actually helps someone who is grieving (and what doesn’t) If you’ve ever found yourself navigating the emotional turbulence that comes with loss, family dynamics, or simply trying to hold everything together, this conversation is for you. Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is simply tell the truth about what we’re feeling. 3. Trad Wife vs Boss Babe (Part 2): The Questions You Actually Asked [EP90]

Trad Wife vs Boss Babe (Part 2): The Questions You Actually Asked [EP90]

Last week’s conversation on Trad Wife vs. Boss Babe sparked a lot of discussion — and my inbox and comments filled up fast. Watch/Listen on YouTube So today, we’re continuing the conversation. Watch on YouTube This is Part 2: Q&A, where I respond to your real questions, thoughts, and lived experiences — not to pick sides, but to explore the ups and downs of both paths, and why respecting every woman’s choice matters more than ever. We talk about: Pre-marital counseling (non-church options), values, and why couples need annual check-ins Prenups, later-in-life marriages, adult children, assets, and planning wisely Dividing household and kid responsibilities without turning it into a battle Why parents don’t “babysit” their own kids — and how teamwork actually works The myth of “having it all” and how modern media diminishes homemaking Teaching kids responsibility (and yes — they can help around the house) Family meals, nutrition, budgeting, and why food education matters Couple time, date nights, and protecting your marriage Jobs, moving, airline life, and financial cycles Money realities across generations — debt, buy-now-pay-later culture, and lifestyle creep Celebrity marriages, headlines, and why we never really know what’s happening behind the scenes And the deeper question underneath it all: Who gets to define your worth — and why should it ever be social media? At the end of the day, this isn’t about labels. It’s about values. Choice. Balance. And having the courage to live a life that actually makes your soul happy. Success isn’t fitting into a role — it’s living life on your own terms. 👇 I welcome your thoughtful discussion and comments. Trad Wife, Boss Babe - What Defines a Happy Modern Wife? [EP89]

**Trad Wife. Boss Babe. Stay-at-Home Mom. Career Woman.** Why does the internet insist women must choose sides? In this episode, we slow the conversation way down and explore the evolution of the *“trad wife”*—from the 1950s homemaker, to the Superwoman era, to today’s deeply nuanced, choice-driven lives women are actually living. This is **not** a debate and **not** an attack on either path. It’s a real, lived conversation about: * Why homemaking and child-rearing are often viewed as “less than” * How feminism expanded choice… and sometimes created new pressure * The exhaustion of “doing it all” * The return of the trad wife—and why it looks very different today * Career, caregiving, creativity, money, autonomy, and respect * How to design a life that aligns with *your* values—not social media labels I also share my personal story after decades as a pilot wife, stay-at-home mom, entrepreneur, and what I now call a **“rad wife”**—forging my own path without losing identity, autonomy, or ambition. If you’re navigating: * Marriage or partnership expectations * Career vs. home (or blending both) * Money dynamics and independence * Motherhood, identity, and fulfillment * Or simply feeling judged for your choices This episode is for you. ✨ **Inside the episode, you’ll also hear:** * How to start honest conversations with your current or future spouse * How to define your priorities (and revisit them as life changes) * Why routines, flexibility, and creativity matter more than labels * How to ignore outside noise without burning bridges At the end of the day, success belongs to the woman who lives life on **her own terms**.
