    Episode 7: Experiencing Culture Shock

This week Nina and Dan have a lively conversation with Dawson White about what brought each of them to Houston and how they got hooked on Houston life. They discuss everything from moving to Houston in the heat of summer for school, jobs, and family, to the excellent local music scene, music education, band camp, aggressive networking, cokes, and buggies (i.e. shopping carts). Amidst lighthearted banter, they also discuss self reflection, taking breaks, being productive, going back to school, innovation, and creativity during pandemic life. Links and References:Aperio: https://www.aperioamericas.org/#live-from-miller-homeDoing Everything Aggressively: https://youtu.be/IFAs78J3DpoThe Fault Line “Hill”: The Long Point-Eureka Heights Fault Lines in Houston: https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2008-04/uoh-osg042408.phpThis Week's Guest:Dawson White: LinkedInYour Hosts:Nina - ninabknight - Facebook, Twitter, InstagramDan - dgkdesign - Facebook, Twitter, InstagramPivot Party Facebook PagePivot Party on TwitterPivot Party on the WebOur work on the web:designbyknight.netninabledsoeknight.com

A Must Listen

Pivot Party is incredibly relevant and current. It is directly focused on the good and bad changes of our infamous year 2020.
Sit back and enjoy the easy listening of heartfelt musicians and artists discuss the current changing landscape of all things arts, culture, the use of technology with performances, creative collaboration ideas and discussion about LIFE in general. These light hearted conversations include but are not limited to peanut butter consumption pros cons, shortages on graham crackers, and various other witty comments to add levity but so far the pilot and first episode doesn’t shy away from the more serious and much needed topics like the emotional voids associated with empty concert halls and sense of “What do I do next?” as our calendars are showing “event postponed” or “performance cancelled” more than we care to stomach.
The episode with Jean, the cellist, is inspirational. Jean’s kind spirit shines through her intelligent, frankly awe inspiring, and innovative musical talents as a performer and as a teacher. She gives listeners great points on keeping music at the forefront of our lives while adapting to COVID19 changes.
Pivot Party addresses important changes that are relevant to a diverse listening audience. Whether you’re a budding or professional musician or performer or just appreciate quality podcast dialogue and banter, you can walk away from listening to Pivot Party with helpful “take aways” and food for the soul. The light hearted humor of the hosts will make you smile. Thank you Pivot Party for getting these much needed conversations started.
