He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, a diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and the co-chair of the Women’s Health Interest Group for the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

In this episode, we talk about a couple of exciting things in the Women’s Health Interest Group for ACLM. In case you did not know, I am also in this group, and my goal has been to help showcase several of the members who speak on women’s health.

This fall will be the Women’s Health Lifestyle Medicine Textbook with Dr. Nancy Eriksen as the lead editor. You may recall that we’ve had Dr. Eriksen on the show a couple of times. I will add the links to her episodes in the show notes.

She and Dr. John McHugh recently spoke at the American College of OBGYN annual meeting with Dr. Eriksen speaking on postpartum care and Dr. McHugh addressing physicians about the importance of exercise.

The Women’s Health Group will have their own workshop for the third year in a row during the Lifestyle Medicine conference in November called Living your best life.

113: Why You Need A Vegan Doctor | Dr. Scott Harrington

113: Why You Need A Vegan Doctor | Dr. Scott Harrington

Dr. Scott Harrington returns to our podcast show for a second time.

Finding the right Primary Care doctor can be difficult, no matter who you are. But when you’re a vegan, it can be even harder. That’s why Dr. Harrington created Vegan Primary Care. A telehealth practice licensed to help you in most US States, providing care from a vegan doctor’s perspective.

As board-certified physicians, they provide many of the same services as any primary care doctor you see in-person – writing prescriptions, ordering imaging or lab tests and making referrals. But rather than rely only on the Western model of medicine, which manages chronic conditions with pills, they believe in plant-based care that seeks to achieve optimum health through a whole-foods plant-based diet, enjoyable exercise, and maintaining quality relationships.

Dr. Harrington’s focus on individual treatment is evident in everything he does. He values the doctor-patient relationship and gets to know you personally. Initial appointments are 1 hour with 30-minute follow-ups so you never feel rushed.

Why do you need a vegan doctor?
Your current doctor may not know where you get your protein. They may not know the connection between nutrition and cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Harrington is here to be your advocate. He mentions an app that you can use to track your daily meals. I looked it up and found one called Ate Food Diary + Habit Journal.

Have you ever used a food diary/log? Or are you still battling certain health conditions despite making a change to a whole food plant-based diet?

Head on over to our Instagram @plantbaseddfwpodcast and send me a message. Let me know how you are doing and if you have been able to reverse certain conditions.

112: Earth Day- Environmental Impact of Food Choices

112: Earth Day- Environmental Impact of Food Choices

In honor of Earth Day, I wanted to rebroadcast a conversation Dr. Riz and I had with a local environmentalist.

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

It is also a day to honor Earth and the concept of peace.

This is a good day to reflect on the environmental impact of our daily choices. Environmental impact is defined by a change to the environment due to our actions.

In the past environmentalist have encouraged us to recycle, to reduce single-use plastics such as water bottles, straws, and grocery bags.

Today we know that animal agriculture is the greatest offender to climate change creating dead zones such as the one located in the Gulf of Mexico.

Once we learned that the greatest offender to climate change is related to animal agriculture, Dr. Riz and I decided that we wanted to also contribute to this conversation.

In this episode, we will discuss:

the increased pollution of our streams, rivers, and coastal ocean
*The decline in the availability of freshwater
*The deforestation of the rain forest
    *Increases in greenhouse gas emissions
*The decline in living marine resources

I will have a video for this podcast in about a day. You can check back to the website for this episode on plantbaseddfwpodcast.com/112
