E016 Life Is Too Short To Be Unhappy with Dr. Craig Brakeman The Experience 50 Podcast for Midlife

    • Personal Journals

When Dr. Craig Brakeman, DVM sold his animal hospital back to the corporate franchise, he thought he was making a move to better his life. At 57, he wanted to be able to focus more on the animals and less on managing a large veterinary practice. But when corporate changes began to change the level of care and customer service, he found that he was miserable. His original plan, which was to remain at the practice as an employee until retirement in 10 years, became unimaginable.

The low point was when he found himself driving to work hoping that he would hit a deer and have an excuse for not going to work. By the time he reached the parking lot, he was on the phone with his wife, Allyson to talk about quitting his job that very day.

And that is what he did, with no plan for what would come next.

In our 50s, we still have time to make career changes. It may be to a different employer, a different line of work or working for yourself.  One thing is for sure: Life is too short to be unhappy.

Hear advice from Mary and Craig who have both been in this situation, personally and professionally, when you know you must act to change your life… immediately.
