Batch223: 14 Cannons & Institution Ale's Keep the Coast Clear IPA & Firestone Walker's Black is Beautiful Craft Beer Republic

    • Food

Hoppy anniversary, everyone! No, it's not our anniversary; it's one of our favorite breweries, 14 Cannons!
Head brewer and all around beer genius Nic Bortolin stops in to talk about their third-anniversary beer collaboration with another local hot spot, Institution Ale Company. Keep the Coast Clear is a west coast IPA, with all Cryo-hops, and is almost a 50/50 mix of 14 Cannons Tyrannicide and Institution's White Walls. In addition to the beer's guided tasting, Nic talks about how this collaboration came about, working with another brewery during a pandemic, figuring out the final recipe, and showing off brewing equipment to other brewers. He also talks about some of the changes they've made due to COVID, canning more beer than ever, and getting people to come to a brewery. We also find out how they came up with the name, as well as most of the other beer names.
Greg talks about his trip to Institution Ales for Oktoberfest, a new schedule for the show, and all of the Australian fans that are listening. We also receive a very accurate show review from a listener. Nic talks about his field trip to Hermosa Brewing to check out their new spot and their incredible food. Dan finally gets himself a beer he's been looking for. And Ally avoids another awful trip to Yuma, AZ.
In the spirit of collaboration, our Bullpen Beer is Firestone Walker's Black is Beautiful Imperial Stout, a collaboration with Weathered Souls Brewing.
