DWF18 Small Is All: Practicing the Future Crossings: The EWF Podcast

    • Arts

Have you ever inspected the unfurling coils of a fern, or marvelled at the ascending spirals of a nautilus shell? Fractals are self-repeating structures whose beautiful consistency means that the smallest element is representative of the entire structure.

Multidisciplinary artist Hawiine wonders alongside founder of literary platform Negro Speaks of Books Inez Trambas and writer Rafeif Ismail whether, like fractals, it is our most minute and repeated practices that reveal our largest visions. If this is the case, then we must be careful to think thoroughly about the relationship between part and whole, self and community, present and future.

To create something big, one must start small. Or quite possibly, the small is all.
