Banter, Southern Style

Books, Beards, and Booze combine three of my favorite things on our lovely spinning rock. Who doesn’t love sinking into a warm tub of dispersed bath bomb, paperback and wine glass in hand? And who loves beards? EVERYONE. Just ask all the women I dated in my twenties. Apparently, keeping a beard was nigh a priority!

As for the booze, look around you. Need I say more?

So, as this horrible timeline slowly disappates into the void, sit back and take a listen to these three maestros of musings and random geekery chatter endlessly about your favorite genre of hobby with a few other odds and bits tossed in for extra flavor.

5 stars out of 5. Would totally eat here again and the service was fantastic!

I wish I had that half hour back

I listened to two guys offer what amounted to lazy coverage of what sounded like the reading of a Wikipedia article on the genre of Cyberpunk. I don’t know the age of these hosts, but if I had to guess I would say that they’re young enough to think people want to listen to them chatter from a place of ignorance and young enough to assume that no one will care about their ineptitude. If they are older then more’s the shame.

Also, whenever a white person, like the two hosts, makes a smarmy, critical, dismissive remark about, “White guys writing white guys” I immediately assume that they’re pandering and clumsily engaging in a sort of verbal self flagellation to demonstrate their virtue. Nothing can be more absurd or a greater justification for never listening to such people’s opinions ever again.

I’m sure these guys would be the same people to criticize those same white writers for being tone deaf or insincere if they had tried to write characters with more diverse perspectives, and it’s this kind of contradiction which always seems to be at the heart of performative white self loathing. It’s annoying, pointless, and incredibly stupid, and it’s embarrassing to listen to such people doing this.

So, half of one episode totally killed my interest in the entire podcast. Remarkable.
