169: How Climate Change is Impacting Communities + Ecosystems | IPCC AR6 WG2 Lead Authors Dr. Libby Jewett + Dr. Kirstin Holsman of NOAA ECO CHIC

    • Society & Culture

The latest global climate report was released this Monday! The IPCC’s AR6 Working Group 2 report summarizes the current climate science around adaptation, and the socio-economic and governance impacts of climate change. I’m excited to be joined by lead authors Dr. Libby Jewett, founding Director of the NOAA Ocean Acidification Program, and Dr. Kirstin Holsman, NOAA Research Fishery Biologist and co-lead investigator on the Alaska Climate Integrated Modeling Project. We learn how they became involved as lead authors on the IPCC report, plus more deeply understand themes of maladaptation, colonialism, socio-economics, and more intersectional discussions of the report, particularly through the lens of marine communities.

If you’re looking to learn more about topics mentioned today:

160: Diasters Aren’t Natural: Management Catastrophes + The Climate Crisis | Dr. Samantha Montano

150: Why Is The Arctic Warming So Fast?

156: What To Know About Compound Extreme Events
