Story Driven Business with John DeLancey Professional Services Growth and Marketing

    • Marketing

This week I am sharing a discussion I recorded with my buddy John DeLancey. John and I met at Lou Mongello’s Momentum conference (which still has a few spots remaining). John is the author of Marketing the Magic, one of my go-to books on how small businesses can use story in their marketing. He’s also host of The Story-Driven Business Show and Marketing the Magic podcasts. John is a diehard entrepreneur who’s built multiple businesses since leaving the United States Air Force. We talk a lot about our experiences in podcasting and discuss why story is important. Plus, we share the quickest ways a business can use it in marketing.

This episode is jam-packed with information and insight. You’ll also hear:

** Each of our stories with podcasting and how we got started
** Podcasting offers a low barrier to entry, but while they may be easy to start they are not always easy to grow
** Intimacy and connection between yourself and your listeners
** Podcasting as a business storytelling medium: going deep, sharing advice and establishing expertise
** The biggest power a business can use in a podcast
** Referral marketing and podcasts: how the two relate
** Understanding audience building and storytelling
** Storytelling within your business (internally) can give structure
** Humanizing your podcast: authenticity, being unscripted and conversational
** Being intentional with finding and engaging with your audience

“Storytelling gives us control over our businesses when we understand our role as a hero to our customers and the villains that play into that.”

“People want to hear about real experiences. They want to hear about the good and the bad. They also want to hear that there are other people like them.”
