We can spot a public servant pretty easily, right? They are either a firefighter, police officer, teacher, elected official, researcher, psychologist, public works professional, soldier, doctor, or … whoa! There’s a lot of public servants out there!
This week is National Public Service Recognition Week! To celebrate, we’ll ask the question… Who is a public servant?
According to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the federal workforce is composed of an estimated 2.1 million civilian workers. The number jumps considerably when state and local public servants are included not to mention grant recipients and contractors.
The bigger point is that there are lots of opportunities to make a difference as a public servant. As Martin Luther King Jr. reminds us, everybody can be great, because anybody can serve.
