TBDP S2:E14 Black Girl Magic: A Day in the Life of A Neurosurgeon The Black Doctors Podcast

    • Medicine

I am so excited to share this episode featuring my co-worker and favorite neurosurgeon, Dr. Venita Simpson. She starts this episode by describing a typical day in her life as a practicing surgeon, how she balances her time between a busy clinic and operating room. Dr. Simpson shares her journey of matching into this incredibly competitive fellowship and provides some tips and encouragement for others pursuing challenging fields. As one of few female neurosurgeons, (and even fewer Black, female neurosurgeons) Dr. Simpson talks about how she stayed focused and motivated along the way. Finally, she gives an incredibly thorough breakdown covering how one's career might look as a practicing neurosurgeon. The seven-year residency program is completely worth it (so she says), and she talks about the different sub-specialties in which neurosurgeons can practice. Have you ever wondered what it takes to become a brain surgeon? Are you or someone you know preparing to apply to a very competitive residency program? This episode is for you!  TBDP is a volunteer passion project with the goal of inspiring all who listen. In-house music and audio production, so any ideas for improvements or suggestions for future guests are welcome. If you are thinking about starting your own podcast, check out my 30 Minutes To Podcast masterclass on my website www.StevenBradley,MD.com--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blackdoctorspodcast/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blackdoctorspodcast/support
