Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Orthopedic Surgery | TBDP S3E13 The Black Doctors Podcast

    • Medicine

As we close out Women's History Month, we are truly ending on a high note. This episode features Dr. Linda Suleiman, an Orthopedic Surgeon specialized in adult hip and knee replacement and reconstruction. (Dr. Suleiman was two years ahead of me at Howard University College of Medicine, so I've had the pleasure of knowing her since 2010!). She shares how she built her resume and worked to successfully match into this incredibly competitive specialty. Dr. Suleiman was the first African-American woman to complete orthopedic surgery residency at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Suleiman shares her typical schedule and how she balances her busy administrative tasks. In addition to being an extremely talented surgeon and assistant professor, she also serves as the assistant dean of graduate medical education and the director of diversity and inclusion at her institution. On a more personal note, Dr. Suleiman shares advice on managing a career while starting a family. Are you interested in becoming an orthopedic surgeon? Are you curious about the additional challenges of being a women or minority in traditionally majority spaces? If so, this is definitely the episode for you. TBDP is a volunteer passion project with the goal of inspiring all who listen. In-house music and audio production, so any ideas for improvements or suggestions for future guests are welcome. If you are thinking about starting your own podcast, check out my 30 Minutes To Podcast masterclass on my website www.StevenBradley, MD.com--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/blackdoctorspodcast/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blackdoctorspodcast/support
