Dennis is also known as the biographer for Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Dennis talks about bonding with Jerry over their love for Beat writers, shares stories about Jerry Garcia’s time in the army, and how he wound up writing the band’s biography. He also talks about the Bay Area in the 50’s and 60’s, choosing to write his PhD dissertation on Kerouac and the philosophy of the Beat Generation. The three discuss politics and civil rights then and now, the notion of fame and whether anyone can really be prepared to handle it, and much more.
