Clare Gallagher – Winning Her Hundred Mile Debut with Hard Work, Cake Frosting, and Laughs

Clare Gallagher grew up in Colorado (looking up to an influential and famous family friend who you’ll hear about at the end of the episode), and went to Princeton where she ran XC and track.  While in college, she was injured frequently and by the time she graduated and moved to Thailand, had fallen out of love with running.

Then came trail running: After training on tsunami evacuation towers, having her running shoes stolen, and cobbling together a training program off a spotty internet connection, she ran her first 80k and fell in love with ultra trail running.

Clare won the competitive Power of Four Challenge in Aspen, then took 2nd to the quick Meghan Roche at the USATF 30k Trail Running Championships, she set her eyes on her backyard course–the (in)famous Leadville 100.   Would her leg speed translate well to one hundred miles? You’ll have to listen to get the whole story on the race.

In this episode with Clare Gallagher we talk about:

* Running collegiately and the pressures to perform.

* Trail running in remote Thailand.

* Clare’s attitude towards racing and training. Is she having fun?

* What the hell she ate at Leadville.

* What’s next on her race schedule.
