Jesus said some difficult things. He said if you want to be his disciple you must hate everyone else by comparison, including your family. He said you have to hate your own life to follow him. He said you have to take up your cross, which was a reference to walking to your own execution. These are tough statements to understand because they just don’t sound like things Jesus would say.
