96 Kerrie Abba (Nomad Brewing Co Co-Founder & Managing Director‪)‬ Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet

    • Philosophy

The first time I tried Nomad Brewing Co’s Long Reach Saison, I was on what I thought was a date at the Champagne Room upstairs from one of my favourite bars in Sydney, The Winery in Surry Hills. That minute the magic touched my lips (the beer), my internal monologue was like… “What IS this magnificence?”

Flash forward 4 weeks and I find myself at a craft beer launch in Surry Hills (Sydney) engaged in earnest conversation with co-founder and managing director of Nomad Brewing Co, Kerrie Abba, bonding over time we’ve both spent time living in the northern Italian region of Piemonte at the base of the Alps (where FIAT’s founded, the 2006 Winter Olympics were held and the home of Ferraro chocolate).

The very next Friday afternoon I’m sitting here in the ‘Transit Lounge’, Nomad’s tasting bar at the brewery, sipping on Nomad's Freshie Salt & Pepper Gose and reminiscing with Kerrie about the joy of Italian culture and love of life that we were both fortunate enough to experience by living in Italia and the impact it’s made on our respective lives.

For Kerrie, it’s become not only a way of life, but her business and lifeblood. 2 years ago, Nomad Brewing Co launched as the brainchild of Kerrie, her husband Johnny Latta and Global Top 100 brewer, Leonardo Di Vincenzo.

The owners of Australia’s largest craft beer distributors, Experience IT beverages, Kerrie and Johnny persuaded Brooks Carretta, Leonardo’s brewing protege at Birra Del Borgo, to join them in Australia to set-up the Nomad business and come on board as their head brewer. With all their brew kit all imported from Italy and determined to brew using native Australian ingredients, Nomad Brewing have created an array of amazing beers designed to delight all palates.

We enjoy vast ranging chats about the Barolo wine region (King of wines, wine of kings), the fascinating story behind the creation of Freshie Salt & Pepper Gose, Nomad Brewing's 'So Caliente' collaboration with Steve Wagner from Stone Brewing, her various and varied businesses and what inspired Kerrie to jet half-way across the world to live in a small town in Italy.

Super, super, SUPER podcast for you ears & I can’t wait to catch-up with Kerrie again.

Lets get into it!
