The Jack Benny Program: Last Show For NBC—12/26/1948 Breaking Walls

    • History

December 26th, 1948 was a seminal day in radio history. NBC had dominated Sunday’s prime time ratings for every season since the late 1920s. Now, in one evening, two of their most famous comedians would depart from their airwaves at the same time.

First it was Jack Benny, who signed on NBC for the last time at 7PM eastern time. Jack made sure to get in one parting joke and thank you to NBC. Benny would debut on CBS at the same time on January 2nd, 1949.

One, semi-related oddity: Jack Benny passed away exactly twenty-six years later on December 26th, 1974 at the age of eighty.
