Molly Hatchet, Part Two: The Current Lineup (1990 - 2024)

This is Part Two of Play That Rock n' Roll's retrospective about the legendary Southern Rock band, Molly Hatchet. In this episode, we cover the latter days of the band, their new direction under guitarist Bobby Ingram, and what they are up to today. We also discuss their turn towards heavier "Southern metal" music in the 2000s, the lead singers that took over for Danny Joe Brown, and even the band's controversial relationship with the confederate flag. We also pay tribute to all of the men who played in this band that are no longer with us today.
To give further insight into some of the topics covered, I have included clips from conversation with Kerrang! magazine writer Xavier Russell, who covered Molly Hatchet extensively in the early '80s.

Joe Kay is a true historian of rock. This type of “rock-n-roll” journalism is awesome.

Great Pod

Probably my favorite part of the pod is Chris. Largely because I love the sound of my own voice!

Sober Southerner ,

smooth, professional & shockingly informative

As a fellow rock music expert I have high expectations for podcasts of this type. Not only was I hella impressed by the amount of research host Joe Kay does, but the thoughtful way he integrates it. From documented facts to witness accounts, plus his own well-informed qualified opinions it's like he's a panel of 3 distinct experts covering one topic from many discreet angles, giving you a 5-dimensional picture of the artist and thier music. I was stunned to actually learn 3 entirely new things about Joe Walsh, an artist whose work and life I happen to know intimately already. On top of that he's got a super listenable style. When I have to speed up 4 out of every 5 podcasts just to get past the droning, stammering, ums, uhs, and repetitive circle-speak, this guy's refreshing as heck... a real natural on the mic, very professional sounding.
