“Rhythm of Life”

Paul Jennings has collected a gorgeous array of conversations with percussionists from every corner of music, from renowned performers to scholars, studio specialists to world tour band members. There’s content for those interested in hearing new rhythms and getting exposure to new cultures, and just as valuable are the reflections on life from the perspective of musicians.

Paul’s curiosity and authenticity brings out the best in his guests, and he gives them room to explore their ideas in the context of the interview. What can you take away from seeing your shadow silhouetted over a stadium audience? How is your playing technique influenced for understanding the history of an instrument and the part of the world where it developed? Paul’s guests consider how lots of different opportunities and challenges of the industry and life in general come to bear on the very primal and communal act of creating music. And his early decision to present the conversations in their entirety with practically no editing was brilliant - it lets you get the original feel and rhythm of the guests’ perspective as it is expressed.

Take your time and enjoy this series, Paul has cultivated a real contribution to cajon music in particular, as well as to he humanities! (And you’ll likely enjoy his nice Scottish accent!)

Thanks, Paul!

Unique and intimate

This podcast is special to me because it has a great production but it feels intimate. I'm a musician and I like hearing from the behind the scenes guys of some of my favorite groups.

I've definitely learned a lot. Excited for the next one.
