    Dr. John Tyler, HBU professor of Law and Jurisprudence, as well as director of the Legal Studies Program, practiced as an attorney in Texas for 35 years, even arguing as lead counsel in two cases before the US Supreme Court. He earned a PhD in Philosophy; his writing and teaching emphasize the political, moral and historical dimensions of law that formed the Western legal tradition. He is involved in HBU’s pre-law program and the Morris Family Center for Law and Liberty.

    Denim Rogers became HBU’s first track athlete to reach the NCAA championships. He is primarily a decathlete. The decathlon is a 10-event competition featuring the pole vault, high jump, long jump, javelin, shot put, discus, 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, 400-meter run, and a 1500-meter run.     #145 – Bailey Zappe, HBU Football Quarterback

    Bailey Zappe is a junior quarterback on HBU’s football team. In September 2019, he was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week following HBU’s defeat of the University of South Dakota. For the game, Zappe completed 41-of-53 passes for 513 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions for the Huskies, setting new records for completions, yardage and tying the touchdown mark.

    The Rev. Gregg Matte is senior pastor of Houston’s First Baptist Church and chair of the HBU Board of Trustees. Matte joined the Board in 2011, and has helped lead the University through growth in enrollment and programs. Matte grew up in southwest Houston. Before leading Houston’s First, Matte founded Breakaway Ministries at Texas A&M University. He is a celebrated author, husband, and father of two.
