What is to be done? (About Video Games) Ft. Jamie Woodcock

This week we're talking about the videogames industry, from labor to play to the god damn CIA. Joining us is Dr. Jamie Woodcock, editor at Notes from Below (https://notesfrombelow.org/) author of "Marx at the Arcade: Consoles, Controllers, and Class Struggle."

We talked about the new Ronald Reagan war crimes simulator, Cyberpunk 2077 and the crunch behind it, and all of the labor (and exploitation) that goes into creating videogames and the stories they tell.

Be sure to get Jamie's book from Haymarket! https://www.haymarketbooks.org/books/1319-marx-at-the-arcade

Best leftist discussion of futuristic topics

Fun leftist discussion of futuristic topics and current events.

The worst sound editing of any podcast out there.

Sublime listen for leftist types

Future Left is a great listen if you're interested in understanding the latest in labor organizing, the future of tech and automation, climate justice, and leftist politics in general. Some great guests show up on here! Check out Episode 136 with Kim Kelly and Alex Kirshner for a primer on union organizing in the digital media world, for example. Hosts Adam and Casey are hilarious, smart, and well-informed -- and always thoughtful about recognizing where they might have blind spots. I appreciate how they balance being sincere with the need to just laugh at the absurdity of our dumb world.
