Blood Orgies, Illuminati and the LostCity

Blood Orgies, Illuminati and the LostCity

Nicole gets the Junkies thinking about traveling, and while Olivia plans to escape the oppressive Arizona temps this summer, Shauna will enjoy the hot hot heat poolside. As for Nicole, she'll soon be sailing to the other side of the International Date Line, where her today will be our tomorrow. Then the talk turns to movies, specifically movie sets. With an imaginary time (and place) machine, Shauna wills herself to the set of Blade (1998), where she participates in the Goth nightclub scene that culminated in a blood orgy. Fun! Olivia's choice is Eyes Wide Shut from 1999, so she can see for herself if there was any "Illuminati shit" was going down that would explain the death of director Stanley Kubrick shortly before the film's release - and the 40 minutes excised from the Director's cut. As for Nicole, she wants to join Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler on the set of 50 First Dates, mainly so she can cross visiting South Africa's Lost City Resort off her bucket list. Hey, it's got a crocodile pool!

On the Set with Ansel Faraj

On the Set with Ansel Faraj

Shauna goes solo this week to interview award-winning indie writer/director/producer Ansel Faraj, whose film The Great Nick D is now on the festival circuit. Ansel tells Shauna about his pop culture heritage, and how it inspired his body of work. Though he’s based in Los Angeles, he’s no nepo baby – but even without connections he’s been able to fulfill his dream of making films. Ansel and Shauna talk about his last movie, Todd Tarantula (which Shauna loved!) now streaming on Tubi, as well as his future projects, which might include a horror musical!

Ansel Faraj’s Hollisworth Productions website has links to his Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as information on how to stream or buy his films. His IMDb page is here and he’s on Instagram.

The Rise and Fall ofJ Lo

The Rise and Fall ofJ Lo

The Junkies reveal their latest obsessions, which for Nicole is March Madness, for Olivia is reading the first book in a fantasy series and then waiting impatiently for the next book to be written, and for Shauna it is reliving the glorious return to classic animation that is X-Men ’97. There is also some NSFW discussion about “knotting” so consider yourself warned. Then the Junkies detail the highs of Jennifer Lopez’s career in contrast to where it sits now, after she released This Is Me…Now, the documentary and the This is Me Now: A Love Story which isn’t a documentary, not that anyone really knows what it is. What is clear is that JLo spent a lot of money just to face a backlash for being so over-the-top that even Ben Affleck was embarassed for her. Then Nicole, Shauna and Olivia each say how they would manage her image rehab. JLo, if you’re listening, DM us!

    Chaotic Celebrity Breakups

    Chaotic Celebrity Breakups

This week, Shauna tells the Junkies about the series Shogun, and that she’s been to Japan twice, not that she’s bragging. Olivia gives us all the horrifying details from the Nickelodeon and Dan Schneider expose series Quiet on the Set (and here’s a trigger warning because it includes sexual violence against children), and Nicole goes up to bat with a review of The Hill, a baseball movie starring Dennis Quaid. Then it’s time to dish on each Junkie’s pick for the most chaotic celebrity breakup in recent memory. Shauna chose the on-again/off-again setside romance of Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and she’s Team Bella all the way. Nicole reaches way back to the early days of Keeping Up with the Kardashians to tell of the Kris and Caitlyn Jenner divorce, which leads to a game of ‘Who is Khloe’s Dad?’ Finally, Olivia pulls at the red strings of her conspiracy board to connect the players involved in the messy end of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s relationship.

    Whats Your Roman Empire?

    Whats Your Roman Empire?

The Junkies briefly ponder the Unsolved Mystery of “What Happened to Kate Middleton?”, but out of respect to PCJ superfan King Charles III, the topic swerves to the umpteenth season of Survivor, and addictive reality shows in general. Then Shauna endeavors to explain the Dune universe to Nicole and Olivia, but how do you adequately explain Spice? Then the Junkies plan a sleepover to watch Dune and the perfect companion movies, American Mary and High School Musical, and emphasize that this will be a drug-free triple feature, just in case you were wondering. Then on to this week’s topic, which isn’t the Roman Empire but also it’s not NOT the Roman Empire. The Junkies each confess what they think about at least once a day, and the answers may or may not surprise you. Make the PCJ podcast your daily obsession and listen now!

The 'Good for Her!' Cinematic Universe

The 'Good for Her!' Cinematic Universe

This week, the Junkies catch up and find that Nicole is still a Ride-or-Die for Law and Order: SVU, even though the romance between Stabler and Benson hasn’t moved any closer to Smoochtown; Olivia binged a 55 part-TikTok series about a pathological liar, then tries to make Shauna think she doesn’t know who Gordon Ramsey is; and Shauna humblebrags that she has layers, like an onion, or an ogre, which will come as no surprise to any government agency that’s monitoring her Google searches. Then the Junkies explore the ‘Good for Her!’ Cinematic Universe, a genre that has at one end the body horror flick American Mary, and at the other, the far less gory Legally Blonde, with Gone Girl being somewhere in the middle. It’s a genre whose mascot is a Lucille Bluth meme and often involves some very specific kinds of revenge. And although some of the protagonists in these ‘Good for Her!’ movies might not be able to convince a court of law that the bad guy had it coming, we in the audience are all silently agreeing: “Good for her.”
