THE INCREDIBLES (2004, dir. Brad Bird)
The sixth film in the Pixar stable and one of its most beloved franchises, director Brad Bird brought style and panache to the screen in computer generated form. Widely considered "the best Fantastic Four film," The Incredibles deals with concepts of family unity as well as accepting the glory days may be long in the past. With a stellar voice cast that includes Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Jason Lee, and Samuel L. Jackson, it's a film that's a riotous romp from start to finish, earning its place as not just a great animated film, but a great film, period.

FRIDAY (1995, dir. F. Gary Gray)
Coming off a slew of 90s films about the dangerous lifestyle of California streets, Friday is a refreshing look at a Cali suburb as seen through the eyes of Craig, a stuck-in-a-rut man who just lost his job (on his day off!?). Accompanying Craig is his best friend Smokey (Chris Tucker, in a career defining performance), determined to make sure Craig relaxes and enjoys the start of a good weekend. Between confrontations with local drug dealer Bi Worm, neighborhood chain snatching bull Deebo, and Craig's affable advances at Debbie, Friday remains of the funniest and endearing films about African American life.

IRON MAN (2008, dir. Jon Favreau)
The film that started a type of franchise never before seen in Hollywood, Iron Man elevated the genre of comic book films from cheesy mid budget affairs to established respected medium of cinema. Robert Downey Jr. tackles the hero Tony Stark (a role he'd come to embody for more than a decade), billionaire playboy philanthropist, with such charm and charisma you can't help but root for him even at his most self destructive. Featuring a supporting cast of Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, and director Jon Favreau, Iron Man is a blast from opening credits to mid credits to end credits.
