    The hiring chain

    The hiring chain

In our most ambitious episode to date, we have not 1, not 2, or 3 but 4, yes FOUR guests on this episode. It all started with the viral campaign called 'The Hiring Chain' from Italian organisation CoorDown. CoorDown's mission is to advocate for the rights of people with Down's Syndrome, and this year on World Down's Syndrome Day (March 21st) they released a campaign to encourage businesses around the world to employ people with Down's Syndrome. The beautiful video, with a song stung by Sting, shows the power of representation, and the impact of seeing people with Down's Syndrome in work.

We sat down virtually with CoorDown's Head of Communications, Martina Fuga, Alison Thwaite, Employment Development Manager from the UK Down's Syndrome Association's WorkFit programme, Superintendent Damian Pettit from the West Mercia Police and his colleague Bethany Greaves (plus Dad!), who found her job at West Mercia Police through the WorkFit programme. We talk about the Hiring Chain campaign, how companies can work with the DSA and the importance of a rich and diverse work force. It's a great chat and one of our most favourite to date.

    Enjoy!

    Welcome to Mama Jill's house

    Welcome to Mama Jill's house

We've got a bonafide Tik Tok sensation on this episode. We're joined by Mama Jill Wallace – a fierce LGBTQ+ supporter activist who garnered millions of views and fans across social media when a video of her telling the story of her son, who came out as trans.

With a smile and big as her heart, Mama Jill has been using her platform to foster support for, and shower love over the LGBTQ+ community, and not without backlash. From horrible messages to false accusations, Mama Jill has stood tall against small-minded folk to become a shining beacon of hope. We were so happy to get to have this time with her, it's guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Enjoy!

    Living with covid

    Living with covid

So it’s been over 8 months since the first lockdown in the U.K. since then we’ve had a second lockdown and recently the introduction of Tier 4 – essentially localised lockdowns.

On the lead up to Christmas, just before Tier 4 became a reality, we caught up with life coach John Tench, who we lovingly know as Fish, aka the Shoreditch Coach to talk about the surreal movie we’ve all been living in for the past 8 months. How people have coped, and how we can help ourselves and others.

If you’re looking for more professional support, you can reach out to John on Instagram @theshoreditchcoach or via his website https://www.theshoreditchcoach.com/

Fashion Minority Report with Daniel Peters

Fashion Minority Report with Daniel Peters

The Black Lives Matter movement, a global network that builds power to bring justice, healing, and freedom to Black people had a watershed moment this year with the worldwide protest in response to police brutality. The movement has inspired a generation of activists and organiser to fight and dismantle systemic racism around the world. One man who made the decision to affect change in his own world is Daniel Peters.

The fashion industry has long had a problem with diversity across hires of BAME / POC and female professionals, and it is high time that businesses and brands be held accountable for this lack of change.

Menswear designer, marketeer, event producer and avid Beyoncé fan (naturally), Daniel has launched the Fashion Minority Report – an opportunity to push for a reform of the industry by championing existing talent and nurturing future fashion stars.

In this inspirational chat, we talk to Daniel about the birth of the FMR, his own personal experiences of often being the only person of colour in the room, the benefits to businesses of having a diverse and inclusive staff base and why, in the words of Queen Bey, those who struggle to get a seat at the table should empower themselves to build their own.
“As some businesses within the fashion industry take to their social media to whisper about what they plan to do internally to address the racial disparity, it is essential that the fashion community and the general public hold them accountable."
