Zach Wheeler tossed 7.1ip allowing two runs on three hits and striking out six as the Phillies beat the nationals 4 to 2 and the opener of their 3-game series!

After the Phillies used 7 pitchers the previous night in an 11-inning loss to the Mets, Wheeler gave his team all his had, including 4 bonus outs. Wheeler started the 7th inning at 91 pitches, then needed just 9 pitches to retire the side in the inning. He was able to record one more out in the 8th, before giving way to Jose Alvarado, who finished the inning. Jeff Hoffman came on to close out the 9th and did so needed just 10 pitches.

Segment 1: THREE BIG THINGS: 1) Zack Wheeler was just what the Phillies needed; Their starter to eat innings. 2) Bryson Stott will hurt you with the long ball or now, even a bunt! He got a little 2-out lightning going for the Phillies in the 3rd inning. 3) Brandon Marsh, solid game at the plate and in the field.

Segment 2: Examining the “Eye-Patch” warm up that Johan Rojas was doing before the game. It didn’t seem to help. Does he need another break? … Nick Castellanos!

Segment 3: What’s next for the Phillies and Nationals?
