Avoiding Financial Scams & Retirement Planning with Ben Carlson #235

Ben Carlson is the Director of Institutional Asset Management at Ritholtz Wealth Management. There, he helps to create detailed investment plans and manage portfolios for institutions and individuals to help them achieve their goals. Ben is also the author of the new book “Don't Fall For It: A Short History of Financial Scams” which we’ll discuss. And on top of that, he has his own investing podcast called Animal Spirits, and he writes all about investing over at his site “A Wealth of Common Sense” - not only are we excited to talk about scams with Ben, but also how we as individuals should approach saving and investing for retirement.

Why You Are Probably Underinsured #233

Why You Are Probably Underinsured #233

There are a lot of different types of insurance out there and it can be tough to know which types of policies you should look into and which ones to avoid. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the amount of information related to insurance, and that can lead you to not making any decisions at all. The end result is that things remain the same- and you’re underinsured. And then you might hear an anecdotal story of when a warranty or insurance policy came in handy for someone else, so you feel that should be a product to look into, but should you? You don’t want to end up overinsuring and paying too much every month for something you don’t really need! In this episode we’ll cover the role that insurance should play in our lives and then dive into the specifics of which plans we should absolutely have, the ones we should just consider, and then the ones we should completely avoid altogether.
During this episode we enjoyed a PB&J Sour by Shades Brewing- a big thanks to Andy for donating this one to the show! A Money Convo with Our Wives! #230

A Money Convo with Our Wives! #230

It’s time to hear from our wives, Emily and Kate! We finally bring the ladies back on for an episode that we recorded while we were together at the beach. We wrestled the kids down to bed, rigged up a recording table in an echo-y beach house dining room, cracked open some beers and got to talking about personal finance. We fielded some questions from the Facebook group and addressed some topics like what it’s like to be married to a hardcore money nerd, frugal date night ideas, transitioning to a single income household, kids and money, teaching kids about money, and plenty more!
During this episode we enjoyed a Road Full of Promise by Monday Night Brewing! Strong armed those finances

Since listening to the podcast I’ve tackled loads of my debt and am working on my partners debt so that we can focus on saving money not only for our home repairs but to live life in a more mentally healthy way. Love the addition of the beers since I am currently partaking in the sober life, wrong year to try it out. Cannot wait for the future episodes and to hopefully hear your opinions on some Florida beers from the Tampa Bay Area wink wink hint hint. Thank you for advice and your tips!
