Episode 89: Diary Of A Long Distance Podcast

Hey! We're back! & we're catching up & chatting about what's been happening in our lives and the world in the last few months, self-care, stand up paddle-boarding, pandemic variables across the country, making comics in Clip Studio, the new Adrian Tomine book The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Cartoonist, and the question of the day (culled from twitter) "Are there comics for adults?" (??)

Episode 88 - Quarantine, Power Pack, & You

Episode 88 - Quarantine, Power Pack, & You

HEY, WE'RE BACK! This episode is our very first A Special Quarantine Episode! Awwww! So cute, though we suspect it will cease to be cute, like yesterday, and will cease to be special at some point, too. Anyway, many things touched upon in this one: Books touched on in this episode are Girl Town by Casey Nowak, "Wall of Shame" by Noah Van Sciver (from NOW #1), Megg & Mogg in Amsterdam by Simon Hanselmann, Master Of Kung Fu by Gulacy & Moench, Batman Universe by Brian Michael Bendis & Nick Derrington, and a big chunk of talkin' bout POWER PACK by Louise Simonson & Jon Bogdanove. Other topics include Quarantine Life, Productivity, Digital Comics apps, Mental Health, Comics Shopping by Mail, and there's a Frankenstein's Comic Swap Haul Report (right at the end). We hope everyone is staying safe and home, and washing their hands, wearing gloves and masks when you leave the house (if you have to!)

    Ep87: Alienation, Protector, & Eco-Collapse

    Ep87: Alienation, Protector, & Eco-Collapse

Up front we talk Valentine's, Hourly Comics Day, self-promotion, and more. After that we talk about two very different comics that are related to  the impending/ongoing ecological collapse we're currently a part of—the five minutes into the future, Google Brand Dystopia of Ines Estrada's Alienation (Fantagraphics); and the far-flung, epochal timeline  extrapolations of Protector #1 (Image) by Simon Roy, Daniel Bensen, Artyom Trakhanov, Jason Wordie, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

2020, here we come! First new pod of the year and first guest in the new format! We cover a lot of ground—from plot points to comics history, distribution wars, the intersection of mainstream and indy comics, metaphysics, the cosmology of the Marvel Universe and much much more!

Episode 85: Howard Cruse & TMNT

Episode 85: Howard Cruse & TMNT

Mike Dawson & Zack Soto are back with the final episode of 2019, talking about Howard Cruse, Stuck Rubber Baby, creative constraints, dense pages, classical patronage, Eastman & Laird, TMNT, Tundra & The Xeric Foundation, and people who phase “upwards” out of comics into being rich & busy (instead of quitting in futility like we always assumed we would). Process Party is a podcast about comic books as an art form, industry, and vocation—from the perspective of two working cartoonists.

PLUS! CXC show report, lots of personal good news and catching up from the Party Boys. Go read Mike's new comic at the Nib, and buy a copy of Zack's new book from him at Short Run, CAB & CALA before he goes into hibernation mode for the winter!

Super special

A peek under the hood at comics creation, work/life balance, self-publishing, showing up — the real nuts and bolds of being an independent creative, from two great comic artists and a seriously incredible lineup of guests. Very happy its back, and hope to hear more process-oriented episodes in the future!

The DVD special features for indie comics!

I work from home and I was super excited to discover this podcast. As a comic creator myself still trying to find an audience, this podcast renews my faith that its possible with each episode. Its great to hear creators talking to other creators in a causual way. It makes me realize that they are real people just like myself who struggle with similar things but still have found a way to make it in the indie comics world! Thanks Zack and Mike!

Filled My Hole

There was a hole in my chest the size and shape of a good comics podcast and Study Group came along and filled it perfectly. Now there is zero blood leaking out.
