Project Runway's Suede (on The Judges, Tim Gunn, Christian Siriano & all things Runway!‪)‬ BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE

    • TV & Film

Fashion Runway’s Suede steps Behind The Rope. Yup, fan favorite, blue haired, likes to refer to himself in the third person, Suede. Checking in from his home in Ohio where he is now a successful Real Estate Broker, Suede is here to tell it all. Born Stephen Whitney Baum, Suede was a name that started in college at Kent State and, well, just stuck (full story inside with how the name came about). After college, and a move to, where else, New York City, and several jobs in the industry - Polo, Jordache, Geoffrey Beene, Old Navy, Suede had a dream that Tim Gunn urged him it was time to apply to Project Runway. Suede did and soon found himself cast as one of the hopeful contestants on Season Five of the then hit Bravo TV show (Fun Fact: last season before it left for Lifetime TV.) Suede discusses the casting process, the filming process, his fellow contestant designers, the difficulty of Runway and how you really had to “Make It Work. Speaking of “Making It Work”, Suede opens up about Project Runway Mentor Tim Gunn, what it is like to work with him as a Mentor on the hit TV show and what Tim Gunn is like in real life off camera. Suede also discusses judges Heidi Klum, Michael Koors, and Nina Garcia - the good, the bad, the other. Suede also chats about his Runway All Stars' Judges when he returned to the now Lifetime show, Issac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. We discuss Georgina’s Husband at the time and Former Runway Producer, Harvey Weinstein, what did he see at the time, was he shocked at what has transpired since regarding Weinstein? We discuss one of the most successful winners of Project Runway, Christian Siriano, how, what, where and why did he become the most well know winner in Runway’s history? On a larger note, Suede explains whether Reality Competition shows are still a valid means to achieve success in ones field after the show ends. Finally, Suede discusses some of his inspirations growing up that have inspired both his fashion as well as his life - Madonna. Cher and Cyndi Lauper. Very good choices Suede. Very good choices for sure.
