What we do and why we do it are shaped by the voices we listen to. And that’s what we’re getting into today!
I moved a few months ago, we’re transitioning to a new town and home, and the kids just started at their new school, it’s been a season of realignment for us. I feel like I’ve really been in a season of perfectionism and confusion and distraction. All of us are probably going in and out of these feelings too. I was feeling nervous about leading you guys in the wrong direction or not having the right words to say on the podcast. But in the last few weeks God has really drawn me in deeper.

It says at the end of James chapter one “to refuse to be corrupted by the world’s values.” and that verse has really been on my heart. That really led me back to so much to one on one time with God. As leaders, we’ve got to drawback to the heart of God and his voice has to be the loudest. What we do and why we do it are shaped by the voices we listen to!

I’m not here to “should all over you”! I’m not going to sit back and tell you a million things you *should* do. I’m here to invite you to more peace, more purpose, more clarity, and more hope. Those are going to come from more time with God. First of all, who wants those things?! I hope your hand is up! Those things are going to come from more personal time with God! That’s where the change is going to happen! We will do and act differently if we let His voice speak the loudest.

Here are some practical ways to put this into your life. One thing that could give you more time is to stop scrolling social media after putting your kids to bed, or after laying down. Give yourself a 15-minute block to post or message and then get off of there! Get out the Word and let it soak in. Put on some worship music and really listen. Even get out of your journal and write down what is making an impact on you right now.
Another thing you can do is not get on social media in the morning until you’ve already spent time in the word. Set your morning off right with personal time with God instead of scrolling through Facebook. You can also schedule it in your free time when your kids are at school, grandma’s house, or wherever! Put it on your calendar and protect it! This may feel a little awkward if you haven’t done it in a while but it is SO worth it! You can also have a full rest day with your family, a Sabbath. Maybe you don’t do any tv or video games, or maybe you just make it a no-social media day. But schedule that family time with Him. And you guys know I do love social media and it has a place and you can use it for good and for business and God. But it can be a major distraction and we all need a break! Another thing you can do is to play worship music during the day. Alexa can take care of that for you and have it playing around the house. One thing that can bring Him into your day is scripture. Pick a verse with your family and use it as a weekly scripture. Read it, write it, and recite it. Have a conversation about it! Highlight and underline what is speaking to you right now. Repeat and let it be a part of you!

I did some enneagram coaching with a coach and as an enneagram 1, I struggle with a negative inner critic. And one exercise she had me do is to draw my inner critic. It was so fascinating! To tap into my creative side and really dig into my inner critic, was such a powerful lesson to me. I want you to try it out and put an image of what your inner critic might look like.

In this season, attending church once a week online just isn’t enough time with Him. If you long for more peace, profits, and purpose… then take the time and energy and put in the time with Him! Draw near to God and he w
