This podcast is designed to help creative individuals like you explore different ideas on how to build a life, career, or business around your purpose and passion. Hosted by Arriane Serafico. // Because designing a meaningful life doesn’t come with an easy-to-follow, one-size-fits-all roadmap. The key, I believe, is to approach it as a creative process in itself. And no matter where you are right now in that process — whether it’s the beginning, middle, or you’re feeling completely lost — this podcast is for you. (Just a tiny disclaimer: This podcast has heavy undertones of design thinking, entrepreneurship, human-centered design, and unapologetic feminism.)

And that’s what this episode is all about. I’ll talk about self-doubt, money, feeling lost in life, shame, and even how I lost weight. So without further ado…

Here are the 8 Life Lessons I Learned From My Biggest Mistakes in 2018.

My Failed Experiment & How Design Thinking Helped Me Develop Failure Immunity: The Last Episode

My Failed Experiment & How Design Thinking Helped Me Develop Failure Immunity: The Last Episode

Have you ever failed at something very important to you? If you have, I know what you feel. It sucks, right?

But I guess the more important question I have is: What did you do about it? That’s what we’ll discuss in this season-ender episode of The Purposeful Creative.

This podcast started out as an experiment, and in this episode, I’ll be telling you more of the results of the experiment, what I’ve learned, where I failed, and what I’m going to do about it.

Hopefully, at the end of this episode, you walk away with a new perspective on failure, as well as ideas on how to approach your next project.

This episode is for you if:

Failure scares you, and you find yourself overthinking a lot of things instead of just jumping in and doing it! (That makes a lot of us, am I right?!) 😉

Mini: How to Start A Social Enterprise – or Any Purpose-Driven Project (with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz)

Mini: How to Start A Social Enterprise – or Any Purpose-Driven Project (with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz)

In today’s short episode, Reese Fernandez-Ruiz of Rags2Riches is back to talk about how to start a social enterprise. In this episode, she’ll outline how she started that journey, and more valuable tips on becoming a social entrepreneur.

Notes from our interview with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz:

How she started a social enterprise:

    * “First, we went to the communities and tried to understand where they were coming from. We tried to leave behind our pre-conceived notions, our biases, and the frameworks we learned in school – and we did that over and over and over again. Just trying to understand them.”

    * “Second, we just tried things out without the pressure to be perfect, and beautiful, and world-class immediately. It’s a process of quick prototypes and learning. The best teacher is experience. The bad decisions you made before… that’s how you get experience.”

    * “Third… we collaborated with others. We didn’t have the monopoly on the best ideas, or expertise, or talents, so why not collaborate? We got a lot of ‘no’s and ‘maybe next time’s… it’s okay to get a lot of NO’s in your life, but still try and reach out and put yourself out there, and something is bound to happen.”

Ep. #15: Finding Your Why & Growing Your Business Around It – Social Entrepreneurship with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz)

Ep. #15: Finding Your Why & Growing Your Business Around It – Social Entrepreneurship with Reese Fernandez-Ruiz)

‘Before, [my relationship with purpose] was very image-driven. ‘Okay, I will look like a good person, I’m amazing, I’m such a great entrepreneur.’ But it has evolved over the years. It became less about how it will look like on me, and to how it will look like in the world.’

That is just one of the many, many extremely vulnerable, uncomfortable, gut-wrenching truth bombs from Reese Fernandez-Ruiz in this episode.

Reese Fernandez-Ruiz is the co-founder of the social enterprise called Rags2Riches, or R2R for short. R2R is a fashion and design house that crafts eco-ethical products woven by empowered community artisans from underprivileged and indigenous communities from the Philippines. The brand is all about making things that matter, and weaving joy into every story. Every product is handmade by artisans from the R2R community, using upcycled, overstock cloth, and indigenous fabrics.

Reese, as co-founder of R2R, has been included in the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2015, she has been recognized as a Global Good Fund Fellow, the 2010 Rolex Awards for Enterprise, is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum, and was a recipient of the 2015 Eileen Fisher Women in Business Award. That’s just the tip of the iceberg — the list of awards is very, very long.

THIS EPISODE IS FOR YOU IF…

You are looking for clarity about your Why. This is for you if you find yourself constantly simmering or grappling in your thoughts of wanting to find your purpose, or maybe starting a business or project with social impact, or just finding work that is meaningful to yourself and to the world — but don’t really have someone to talk to about it.
