Down to earth, up beat
I love hearing the perspectives of Ben and Charlie on living in a space that has historically been such a difficult place to be in. I love how they offer hope to so many who have not dared even address this subject. As a therapist, I recommend this podcast whole-heartedly.
Ben and Charlie have opened my eyes and heart in so many ways!
Being born and raised in Southern California, I never thought that I would had naiveties or biases related to LGBTQIA+ community, but when my daughter came out to us as Bisexual last February; I was so scared of what that would mean for our family and the fear that she would become anti-religious and hateful and want nothing to do with our family.
That’s when I started educating myself on stories from LGBTQIA+ individuals. My husband stumbled upon a quote from this podcast randomly from Deseret Bookshelf and shared it with me. It was an answer to many heartfelt prayers from a parent truly wanting to understand what my child might be going through and how to help and support them.
I appreciate Ben and Charlie’s perspectives and their guests. It truly was a paradigm shift for me after Season 1; Episode 10 with the Bishop from Highland, Utah. I had no idea that priesthood leadership would be so welcoming to the LGBTQIA+ community. I was amazed by the love he shared for everyone and listened to that specific episode many times. At one point we met with our bishop and shared this specific episode with him and he listened to it a half a dozen times too!
Since listening to this podcast, I have openly shared my love and care for LGBTQIA+ individuals during relief society lessons and Sunday school lessons and have gotten numerous people afterwards thanking me for my comments. Many of them have a trans family member, a cousin, close friend who is LGBTQIA+ and they appreciate the love that is shared for that community during church.
I’ve also been wearing a rainbow wristband watch since it was suggested from the podcast forever ago (about a simple way to show being an ally by wearing any kind of rainbow pin, sock, etc. while at church to show support). I want everyone to know that they have an Ally in me, especially at church!
Thank you both, so much! Keep up the amazing work! Push past any negative comments and realize that you are doing God’s work!
Faithful and Open
I’m so grateful for Ben and Charlie. They are clearly seeking to follow God, follow scriptures, and live the gospel while being open about who they are and the challenges faced by many LGBTQ members of the Church. I turn to this for help to understand the questions and feelings of family members and how I can better respond.
