    Ways to Help Your Child Overcome Ridicule

    Ways to Help Your Child Overcome Ridicule

    Did you know Jesus was ridiculed?

    There is a huge difference between being teased and being ridiculed, and both acts can affect us, as well as our children. Teasing is making fun of a person or a situation, and teasing is common among children, especially between siblings. Mocking someone or humiliating them with taunting words or insulting behavior is ridicule. Jesus is ridiculed many times throughout the bible as he is mocked, laughed at, made fun of, and eventually crucified.

    Some of the reasons that children may tease or ridicule other children are to get attention, to feel superior, to look cool, to emulate a famous influencer, or simply because they feel intimidated. However, there are many ways to help a child who has been teased or ridiculed. Some ways to help a child that has been ridiculed are to relate to them, role-play the situation, be more familiar with the people they are hanging out with when you’re not around and read verses from the Bible about Jesus being ridiculed.

    Can Children Fast?

    Can Children Fast?

    God’s word says, “when you fast,” not IF you fast!

    Fasting is a spiritual practice in many religions that allow us to be sacrificial. We can partake in fasting in many other ways, not only with food deprivation. Many problems arise from children fasting from food due to their smaller size and increased metabolic needs. Even with short fasts from food, children have shown to have a decrease in their cognitive functioning. Our children should learn about the biblical directive of fasting and the reasons for fasting, and those who have health issues should not fast from food and find another way to be sacrificial to the Lord.

    Few of the many reasons why we fast:

    * To strengthen prayer

    * To seek God’s guidance

    * To seek deliverance or protection

    * To express repentance and a return to God

    * To humble oneself before God

    * To overcome temptation and dedicate ourselves to God

    * To express love and worship for God

    Some ways your child can fast besides giving up food:

    * Giving up TV

    * Giving up video games

    * Limiting cell phone use

    * Giving up social media

    * Negative attitudes and bad behavior

    Bible Verses Mentioned:

    * Matthew 6:16

    * Matthew 9:15

    * 1 Corinthians 7:5

    * Ezra 8:23

    * Judges 20:26

    * 2 Chronicles 20:3-4

    * 1 Samuel 7:6

    * 1 Kings 21:27-29

    * Matthew 4:1-11

    * Luke 2:37

    * What new methods, information, or guidance can you share to empower or equip all who are raising the next generation to help their children use media devices to help them gain biblical knowledge and understanding?

    * What material can you share with the audience – specifying how it will help raise the next generation of strong Christians?

    Experiencing God Through Our Senses

    Experiencing God Through Our Senses

    Did you know we have more than five senses?

    Our senses become engaged through experience, and our children learn tremendously through manipulating objects and engaging their senses. When we engage in the world, this is a symbol-centered approach. Children love the divine and mysterious ways of God and to experience his creation through nature. Creation isn’t merely experienced in a moment; it needs to be continually lived out through ordinary moments. It is important to share these moments with our children and connect to God by adhering to the Shema command.

    Here are some tips to help you and your child connect with God on a deeper level:

    * Take a nature walk. Before going on the walk, pray that God will open your senses to observe his presence in his creation. Then, take a pen and notepad to describe what you are seeing and feeling. Ask your child, “What do you smell, what do you hear, and what types of textures do you see?

    * Listen to the sounds of nature. Ask your child, “does the sound of a rain shower draw you closer to God?” Reflect on a personal childhood memory that involves music and share your thoughts with your children.

    * Touch is another wonderful sense. It is so powerful it can heal the sick and mend a broken heart. Buy different materials and ask your children to touch them. Ask them, “How does the material make you feel, and can you connect those feelings to God’s word?”

    * Wash each other’s feet and let them feel the comfort of you washing their feet. Tell them the story of how the son of God who created all things washed the filthy feet of his disciples!

    * Engage their sense of smell and taste. Plan a picnic on a blanket in the backyard with all kinds of treats – make sure to have some foods they have never tasted. As they taste the food, ask them to tell you what they are tasting and how it makes them feel.

    These are some of the many ways to experience God and his creation through our wonderful senses and to help our children do the same!
