Gerry Hussey and why you need to ask yourself, ‘What's Important Now?’

Gerry Hussey and why you need to ask yourself, ‘What's Important Now?’

Gerry Hussey is my guest on this week’s Real Health podcast and to call him a sports psychologist doesn’t do him or the topics we discuss, justice.

While Gerry does explain the work he does with elite athletes in helping them to succeed, the reality is, what Gerry teaches is applicable to all our lives. It is about making the most from your life, living life fully and asking yourself the hard questions that need to be answered.

‘WIN - What’s Important Now?’ are the guiding principles that Gerry discusses with me on the show.

“Every one of us is only one question away from a major breakthrough,” he says. “Deep in our heart we know what we want. Do you want to spend the rest of your life hiding? Would you not like a chance of really living this one short life? We need to be inspired by a vision of the future. Start making decisions on the person you want to be.”

    Listen and be inspired.

    Ciara Kelly's #100DaysofWalking

    Ciara Kelly's #100DaysofWalking

Many of you will know that I’m a big of walking as a great exercise for both physical and mental well-being and this week’s guest has certainly taken walking even further with her #100daysofwalking, encouraging anyone that can, to do thirty minutes of walking every day for the first 100 days of the year.

Dr. Ciara Kelly, Newstalk’s Lunchtime presenter and walking aficionado, joined me on this week’s Real Health podcast to explain how and why she started her #100daysofwalking, the benefits she has gained from it and why so many other people have joined her in hitting the pavements and trails.

'The future is testing but I'm prepared for it' Eamon Dunphy on a life less lived

'The future is testing but I'm prepared for it' Eamon Dunphy on a life less lived

Christmas is over and I hope you all had a wonderful time with friends and family and didn’t go over-board on the turkey, ham and wine?!

The days between Christmas and New Year are a great time to take stock, look back and reflect on the year and life in general, and so for this week’s Real Health podcast, I sit down with one of Ireland’s most famous and controversial journalists who is now the host of his own hugely popular podcast, The Stand, Eamon Dunphy.

I wanted to speak to Eamon about his life and career, from the highs and lows, to finding out about the mental stress of being in the spotlight. How do you deal with a life of notoriety and fame?

And now aged 74, he talks to me frankly about the future, what it may hold and why he’s not afraid of what’s to come.

I hope you enjoy the interview as you spend some time relaxing after Christmas Day and I will be back in the New Year with some great tips and advice for starting 2020 in the best possible way.

    Life Lessons with Mary Kennedy

    Life Lessons with Mary Kennedy

She may have had to move on from RTE after reaching retirement age, but for presenter Mary Kennedy, her career is anything but over – starting with Dancing with the Stars to look forward to.

Before Mary started her rehearsals, she joined me on this week’s Real Health podcast for this week’s ‘Life Lessons’ episode looking back on her career and life, what she learned and would do differently.

Plus she has some great advice about the dangers of being cash-rich and time-poor, why family trumps career every time, and the important role that counselling and therapy has played in her life helping greatly with her own mental health.

As this is my last show before Christmas, I want to thank you all for listening and subscribing to the Real Health podcast. Your support has helped make it the number 1 Health & Fitness podcast in Ireland and I’ve even bigger and better things planned for the show in 2020, so watch this space!

A very Merry Christmas to you and your families and I’ll be back with a very special St. Stephen’s Day episode. Whatever you do on Christmas Day, enjoy yourself, spend time with family and friends and find the balance in your day.

Number 1

In a world where we are bombarded by non stop advertising and “fitness influencers” pushing nothing but dire advice and information, this podcast is a godsend. Karl provides helpful, useful and very practical advice and information that anyone can easily implement into their daily lives to become healthier. He always has a wonderful range of guests covering all aspects of health (even an episode on financial health which was brilliant) I love this podcast. Keep up the fantastic work.
