Rear Window (1954) The Film List
-
- TV & Film
This is Alfred Hitchcock’s fiftieth film. As Hitchcock preferred, this film was shot entirely on a sound stage and is set wholly within Jefferies’, the protagonist’s apartment.
The story plays with voyeurism. The more intently Jefferies spies on his neighbors, the closer the cameras come to the action going on inside his neighbors’ apartments. The audience is brought in on the spying. Hitchcock used this as a metaphor for the whole movie-going experience. In essence, that’s what we do every time we go to the theatre. We are eavesdropping on the people on screen.
