    We have not been the best at self-care, tbh. We have been so busy planning for NOMAD 2020, Elaine’s writing, Cody’s music challenge, and our business stuff has left us tired and a bit overwhelmed. Being in a creative season means dumping your heart out on the floor and praying that others appreciate your hard work.\

    But all with all the romanticism aside, we realize we have to take more time to honor our temples as we move forward in this season. So let this episode be an open letter between you and us: Let’s make sure to honor the God in ourselves, even when it feels like we are way too busy to even stop. It isn’t just healthy, it's a necessity.

    117 - The Power Of Communication (With Levi the Poet)

    117 - The Power Of Communication (With Levi the Poet)

    ARTIST HIGHLIGHT: Levi the Poet - “Levi The Poet is a multidisciplinary artist: spoken-word poet, creative writer, author, quasi-teacher, husband, and lover of bright coffees.”
    ---
    Communication is a beautiful gift that is expressed through many mediums. From spoken word to poetry and writing, we have been given the ability to use our own artistic expression to help convey our thoughts and feelings. Communication opens the door to let others into our minds and our hearts.

    This week, we are talking with Levi the Poet, one of Elaine’s personal inspirations in her journey and passion into writing as an artistic expression. We discuss Levi’s creative process as well as the driving force behind his poetry. We also discuss how God is found in the midst of some of our darkest places and how despite our desire for avoidance, life is found in the center of the things that test us the most.

    This week we talked about:
    * Keeping yourself from burnout
    * Being still in your faith
    * The differences in prayer and meditation
    * Moving with God through something instead of trying to go around it
    * Learning about God in the midst of dark times
    * Bravery through honest expression
    * The differences in sharing from past hurts and an open wounds
    * Cultivating relationship beyond polarizing beliefs
    * The power of communication

    GUEST INFO:
    Born the introverted son of a father whose mental illness led to suicide, and a mother who clung to her faith, Levi turned to writing as a therapeutic means of private expression.
    At the age of 18, he began to share his work in the form of spoken word poetry. Levi's broad taste in everything from hardcore to hip-hop has resulted in a unique contribution to the genre that seems to both fit and transcend it.
    Through blunt lyricism and a captivating audio-visual production, his performances are a wholly immersive experience: an invitation to an audience that might see itself in his stories, and complete them.
    Levi writes about and shares his personal thoughts on creativity, faith and art through The LTP Weekly each Sunday night with members of The Fraction Club, and on his blog.
    Levi continues to write from a place of personal transparency, combining advocacy and artistry for thousands of listeners across the globe who resonate with his work.

    116 - Joy In Unseen Places

    116 - Joy In Unseen Places

    Joy is based on perspective. The Joy of the Lord can be found even in the midst of change.
    ---
    COVID shut down one of our business’. We could choose to see the loss, the scarcity, or the uncertainty, or we can focus on finding the beauty in a new flow. This isn’t to say we need to abandon our thoughts and turn a blind eye to reality, rather that we can choose to see the good and use it to grow.

    This week we are talking about what is bringing us joy and how we are experiencing God in a new way even after we had to pivot due to these current circumstances. God is in every moment, it’s (not so) simply our job to see it.

    This week we talked about:
    * Finding joy in uncertainty
    * Pivoting like a pro
    * Money vs Time
    * Seeing God outside of our previous methods
    * Focusing in on each moment
    * Discovering new avenues for joy

    115 - Islamaphobia (With Jordan and Camille)

    115 - Islamaphobia (With Jordan and Camille)

    Islamaphobia in Christianity: Which belief is ACTUALLY doing the “devil’s work”?
    ---
    Racism is a terrible thing, there’s no arguing that. But what if your racism isn’t perceived as such? What if this version of racism is deemed “the Lord’s work” by many and shunned by few?

    This week, we are continuing our conversion with Jordan and Camille of Halidom. Last time we talked about racism amidst COVID-19 but this week we drilled down on one of the worst, most rampant forms of racism that plague not only our Western culture but Christianity as a whole. We are talking about racism and propaganda towards Muslim culture.

    Muslims are a group so often misunderstood in our circles of faith that it borderlines insanity and is nestled well into the notion of ridiculousness. We spread blatant lives, make boldfaced assumptions, and allow our cherry-picked ideas of their beliefs to categorize them with the most extreme versions of their religion (all the while turning a blind eye to our own).

    This is a heavy topic, but one that needs to be addressed so let’s get right to it.

    This week we talked about:
    * Terrorism framing Muslim culture
    * Christian’s desire to have an enemy
    * Racism in the early church
    * The Chrsitian false doctrine of superiority
    * Christian vs Muslim terrorism in the eyes of the media
    * Dissmisiveness towards those who carry the same label as you
    * How negative views of culture emphasizes the bad traits of that culture in the younger generation
    * The relationship between terrorism and fundamentalism
    * Viewing others beyond a flat, 2D image we have created of them
    * Listening to people over propaganda
    * Hate comes from fear (Perfect love casts out fear)

    Jordan and Camille (Halidom)
    Hi! Welcome to Halidom. We’re a couple of recovering fundamentalists having spiritual conversations and producing videos on God and religion.⁣

    Halidom is a place where we can speak and listen openly and honestly without judgment. The Bible is a weird and old book, but we’re all a bit weird too. Maybe we’ll be able to find hope and beauty while we work through what these ancient traditions mean today.

    114 - Do You Have Untapped Spiritual Energy?

    114 - Do You Have Untapped Spiritual Energy?

    What if there are more senses than just the few we are taught? What if these unspoken energies tap deeper into our spiritual selves? What if this has been taught and yet forgotten for centuries?
    ---
    Our favorite episodes come from long hikes and quiet minds. This week’s just so happens to be one of those episodes! We took a hike on a new trail and recorded our conversation as we delved into the idea that maybe, just maybe we have untapped spiritual energy if only we could still our minds enough to tap into it.

    God is everywhere. He is personal, yet diverse. He is completely with us yes also everywhere at the same time. And he is in all and is all. We talk about energy, our senses outside of the primary 5 we often are taught, science, and our purpose in walking this earth.

    This episode is open and we invite you to join in on the conversation. We would love to hear your thoughts!

    This week we talked about:
    * The untapped energies that might exist all around us
    * the impact certain energies have on our spiritual connection
    * Our limited understanding of science
    * The ever presentness of God in every living thing
    * Knowing how to listen to God in the stillness
    * The tangibility of God as a person as well as the Omni-existence of God in everything
    * The GOD energy
    * Heaven: The unification and harmony of all things
    * INstincts and other suppressed God-given gifts
    * The difference in thinking about God and experiencing God
    * How thought prohibits experience
    * Understanding how much we don’t understand

    113 - Listening to Your Subtle Feelings

    113 - Listening to Your Subtle Feelings

    How do we align our thoughts and our spirit with God’s? How do we know when our feelings are trying to tell us something about what our spirit wants to say?
    ---
    Sometimes your spirit talks to you at 5:30 am on a Saturday to get up and write in your journal. Other times it tells you to stop getting caught up in mind-numbing conversations on Facebook. And still, more often than not, we ignore those little unctions to carry on with whatever our brains see fit to do.

    This week we are talking about cultivating our thoughts and aligning with our spirits. God speaks to us all the time and with all that is going one, now more than ever we ought to pay attention to what is being said. With all that is currently going on, it is easier than ever to have our thoughts drift to past events or the excitement of better days but let us not forget the gift that is right this very moment. If you are reading this then you have the gift of life, and life is worth appreciating.

    If you have been feeling antsy, anxious, or feel like you are beside yourself than this episode is for you. We have become desynchronized with our spirits and our bodies are desperate for a realignment. Take some time with us today to allow your thoughts freedom to roam and give the spirit room to shepherd them. By doing so, we can come out of this time with a stronger mind, a happier spirit, and a soil that is primed for growth.

J. Turney ,

I’m along for the ride

I found The Reckless Pursuit podcast like I have found most of the others I listen too. I heard Cody & Elaine interview on another podcast that I listen too. I love their openness, their honesty, and the overall joy that they speak from. I love the topics. They are engaging and ask us to come along for the ride. I cannot suggest their podcast more.

The Grief Bully ,

Brave to the Bones

I admire the courage of both Cody and Elaine to take on such controversial topics for the good of us all. I especially love that they do this as a couple. I like the openness and honesty and willingness to learn what they are curious about but unsure. Keep it guys you are truly making an impact!

Todd R. Vick ,

I love this couple!

Cody and Elaine are two very special people. The are truly “reckless” in their pursuit of authenticity and grace and they unselfishly give their time and resources to help us find the same. This is a couple that I could take a long drive with! I know our conversations would be fascinating! I adore them both!
