We are the Doctors Paro, and welcome to the Reconciling Medicine Podcast. We are a dual physician couple in practice - and for over a decade we’ve been navigating the ups, downs and in-betweens of this profession......together. We’ve done a lot of things right, and we’ve made plenty of mistakes. Some say the practice of medicine is dying - it’s not. But it is changing and we must adapt. This podcast is an exploration of our relationship with medicine - how we fit it into our lives, how it affects the people we love, and why we are optimistic about the future. We believe that with the right commitment and mindset we can all learn how to Reconcile Medicine.

I’m not the target audience and I find this podcast educational and enjoyable

I am not a doctor or a medical student and I do not aspire to either. So technically speaking, this podcast is not for me. But, two things drew me to check out this podcast: (1) I work in a profession (law) that - like medicine - is changing rapidly, prone to causing burnout, takes effort to have a good work-life balance, and the top ranks do not have enough women or people of color; (2) in the past few years, I had an experience that required more interaction with doctors than the standard once a year check-up and this has made me fascinated with what inspires people to become doctors, why they choose their specialty, what’s the training like, what is the day-to-day like, do they like their jobs, etc. I find the content - hosted by a pediatric cardiologist and plastic surgeon who are married to each other and have two children - very interesting! The hosts are very natural and suited to the podcast format and they have a good rapport with one another. If you have any interest in the medical field for whatever reason, I think this podcast is worth checking out! P. S. The husband (John) is an amateur singer/songwriter and they close out most episodes with one of his songs, which is kind of a cool feature. P.P.S. The song at the end of the miscarriage episode, was beautiful, touching, and really got to me. I’m not really a crier, and even thinking about the lyrics causes me to choke up. Well done, John. And what a special memento (for lack of a better word) for a difficult chapter in your life ❤️

Quick update 4/2/2022 - I’m digging season 3! The lack of nuance and over-meme-ification on social media is getting to me too, and I love that they are using the podcast to bring a more nuanced conversation to some of the things discussed on social media.

So happy you guys are back in our ears! Nice reprieve from other more intense podcasts and relatable even in residency. Love Renee’s birthday song! Thanks for sharing 💕

Love this podcast

I’m not a doctor but still find this podcast very relatable and informative for life in general. They give great advice and are hilarious to listen to. I’m actually interested in the toothpaste they are using, lol.
