23 episodes

Red Inker is a Jarrod Kimber podcast, and it's not about the week in cricket. We're not trying to make fun or sense of what some big-name player said last week, this podcast doesn't care. It's a long look at some of the most interesting issues, players and stories with someone who's been writing or living it. We've had episodes on UAE cricket, how Jofra Archer is perceived, the search for Maros Kolpak, no balls, freelance T20 and many others.

Guests so far include Barney Ronay, Andy Balbirnie, Adam Collins, Tymal Mills, Daniel Norcross and Shan Masood.

Benny Howell is Cricket’s Different Bowler

This week we have a T20 cricketer who in the last five years has the 4th best average and 4th best economy rate. Benny comes on to talk about his weird career so far, how he’s been overlooked despite his record, how baseball changed everything and what part his ADHD has played in him becoming the player he is. Not many medium pacers are part pitcher and part Dan Vettori, but Benny Howell is not like the others.

England In The 90's with Emma John

England In The 90's with Emma John

England sucked considerably in the 90’s, so much so that their sucking seemed to effect all English cricket fans from that era. They are a broken and deformed bunch, perhaps none more so than our guest on this episode, Emma John. This episode we talk about Emma’s teen years spent clipping things from newspapers, her journey in meeting so many of those 90’s players, and how many of those cricketers are like characters in the background of an Adam Sandler film.

    Harsha Bhogle on Point

    Harsha Bhogle on Point

Harsha Bhogle is one of the cricket world’s most well-known faces. As a commentator he has spent years being the lone non-cricketer in a sea of monosyllabic former greats. But the thing about Harsha being a non-cricketer is that he’s not, he did play the game, and so o this episode we talk about his early life following and playing the game. Then later on he gets bored of talking about himself and stars to question me on the future of cricket and analytics.

The T20 Bible with Tim Wigmore

The T20 Bible with Tim Wigmore

Tim Wigmore and Freddie Wilde have written the definitive book on T20 cricket. So I got Wigmore to come in and talk about some different themes that the book touches on. Chris Gayle’s hamstrings, drugs, Windball, Ganguly and ABDV’s fairly empty trophy cabinet are just some of the topics.

    Sreesanth And Other Mammals

    Sreesanth And Other Mammals

This episode is something slightly different, we talk about my story on Sreesanth, and for that, we drop in the king of cricket podcasts Subash Jayaraman to interview me. Sreesanth was a fast bowler and figure of fun for much of his career, then there was the match fixing and what followed next. It was a bizarre story of an interesting man.

Cricket’s Hunter Thompson/Guerrilla Analyst

Jarrod Kimber’s [Host] work is consistently entertaining and while the bar for quality analysis in Cricket is fairly low, Kimber would still scale it if it were higher.

This and his other podcasts are a must for the well-rounded cricket fan. And he’s the only cricket affiliated professional from Australia [except Gideon Haigh] who is not only easy to like, but to respect. [Jokes aside, there’s certainly less sycophancy surrounding the national side than there was].

If you’re tired of the hyper-partisan and trite chatter that animates much of cricket media, then Kimber’s podcasts and books are what you’re looking for.

Recommended without reservation.

Absolutely brilliant

Absolutely brilliant podcast. I have been cricket fan for all of my life. Never understood a game better than cricket. Even for me, Jarrod brings a different flavor or cricket through this podcast. Just finished listening Shan 2.0. Brilliant interview. Kudos Jarrod.

Listen for Jarrod Kimber’s Insights & Observations

Jarrod is arguably the best cricket analyst out there and he’s finally come out with his own podcast. Strongly recommended for smart insights into the way game is played by cricketers, covered by media, discussed by fans and managed by administrators. Also, he’s quite smart with numbers so expect evidence-based observations and conversations with guests.
