Totally here for RedWing!

It’s like a noir detective novel with lots of narration and a hope punk queer super hero epic romance all at the same time. There is plenty of plot to keep you guessing and plenty of interesting characters to find yourself in. I love the narration that shares so much about what it’s like to be the main character. Some of the production is rough around the edges and some of it is super great with some really fun choices that show sensitivity to the medium. We get to hear voices we don’t hear everywhere else, the music is really nice, and the action is easy enough to follow. Plus, some crossover fun, too! This show covers some tough topics, but ultimately cheered me up and made me want to listen to more Audio Drama. What a gift.

A Pleasure to Hear!

A great modern take on inclusivity and superheroes! I love all of the characters and Jordan's almost "always-on" flamboyance and flair makes him such an intersting character!

I’m torn on this one.

This starts as a superhero original story that almost immediately launches into both the mystery behind the super-hero powers, but also into more powered people turning up in general.

It’s pretty groundbreaking to see queer and transgender superheroes, even in a radio drama podcast. There also seems to be a fair amount of racial diversity as well, given how often the narrator makes certain to describe skin tone as well as other physical traits.

This is a universe in which DC heroes exists, but I’m unsure as to whether they’re actual living people within the Redwing story, or if he’s only referring to them as though they were fictional. Either way, it’s cute and only a little confusing.

However.

The voice acting skills of the cast vary, as does the audio quality depending on who is speaking. Some actors, like Jo, sound like professionals or just well-practiced enthusiasts: they sound natural and the emotion can be heard in their voices. Other characters, including - unfortunately - our protagonist Jordan, could use a little polish: I’ve heard the same word repeated at least once before continuing on with the script, points where it sounds like the lines are literally being read off a paper, perhaps for the first time, completely flat delivery and then what seems to be a sudden realization that emotion needs to be included verbally … these issues are distracting as they get me thinking more of the actors struggling and less about the story.

I think that RedWing is a wonderful idea in theory, and look forward to improvements in the actual practice.
