Dave Pisani, Barry Kay and Tod Pleasant have teamed up to create the Regular Joes Podcast, a show that will focus on various aspects of the things they love most, movies, toys, sci-fi, tv shows, comics, collecting, and much more. Each episode will feature subjects such as the cool vehicles and props from classic movies and tv show, the movie you would want to have with you if you were stranded on a desert island as well as new or notable items the guys have added to their varied collections. Special celebrity guests will stop by from time-to-time to provide their input as well. There's no end to the useless stuff they know, but don’t call them Geeks, they're just Regular Joes!

And this time almost all in color! There’s the swinging sixties, the sleazy seventies, the epic eighties, and the nineties …. when most every good film is set in another time period.     For the much anticipated 555th episode of the Regular Joes Podcast, Barry, Dave, Tod, Derryl and Brian (yes, FIVE of them) each offer up FIFTY FIVE significant films each of them think everyone should see.  Sort of. The two caveats are, the films must be prior to 2000, and only a single film from a franchise. Think of it as a twentieth century bucket list for cinephiles. Or, as is often noted, what films Captain America needs to see after being thawed out from the ice. One last thing. Unlike films like Dune (2021) were going to tell you up front they don’t actually finish, and part II is coming next week to close out the last three decades. Thanks for listening!

    This week, Barry, Dave and Tod, reputedly the three hardest people in the known universe to buy for, exchange Christmas gifts. This may seem like an exercise in futility, but it has become tradition. On the whole this was a good year. Barry didn’t buy himself anything a week before the gift exchange, Dave didn’t already have everything, and Tod grudgingly accepted that he has gone up a tee shirt size.     From the Max Fleischer cartoons, the early serials, the 1950’s series, and back to movie screens and a succession of TV shows, no other hero has left the footprint in pop culture that the Man of Steel has. An orphaned refugee who gives back to the world that took him in, Superman is intrinsically tied to the American mythos. It seems that every generation has a Superman, and this summer James Gunn will bring the newest incarnation to the big screen. The first trailer for Superman (2025) is out and the Regular Joes break down the brief glimpse into familiar characters, and many never before seen on screen. While the stakes remain high, the dark and broody tone of recent years seems to be behind us. The only question that remains is, are you ready to believe in Superman … again. And, as they close out the year, the Joes squeeze in one last batch of Random Topics, and one more round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for listening!

    It’s December, so there must be a new Star Wars series on Disney+. Do you like watching children getting in trouble, running, and screaming? How do you feel about pirates? Do you have fond memories of watching The Goonies (1985)? If so, Disney+ has the show for you. Surprisingly, it seems to be the show for others as well, as Skeleton Crew has landed well with critics, Star Wars fans, and yes, all three Regular Joes. There will be SPOILERS, so you should check out the first few eps before listening. If you were wondering where his last week’s show went, Dave catches you up on his most recent trip to the happiest place on earth.     550: I Watched it With Shatner

    For the landmark 550th episode the Regular Joe’s are again joined by Irregular Joes Derryl DePriest and Brian Mix.  After an extremely far reaching round of Random Topics, the hosts discuss the just released Star Trek short, 765874 Unification, from OTOY studios in collaboration with the Roddenberry Archive. With callbacks to the unaired pilot, the original series, the Next Generation, the Kelvin Universe, Discovery, and Picard, the brief video is deeply routed in the Star Trek universe. For fans who were underwhelmed by Kirk’s death in Star Trek: Generations, or disappointed by the brief reference to Spock’s death off screen in Star Trek Beyond, unification provides some intensely satisfying closure for one of the greatest friendships in sci-fi lore. And, because Brian somehow always knows how to be at the right place at the right time, he shares his experience watching the premiere of the short alongside William Shatner.  How’s that for a phaser drop?     549: Oz and Agatha

    It’s been a few months since a pair streaming series based on secondary characters from Marvel’s WandaVision (2021), and DC’s The Batman (2022) debuted. Expectations, and the level of excitement, was low for both of these offerings. Now that Agatha all Along and The Penguin have wrapped the Joe’s go back and review the two series as a whole. Agatha, with an eccentric ensemble cast, followed the Witch’s Road, on a surprisingly entertaining journey, which proved alternately humorous, and quite dark. While over in the seedy, and still water soaked, underbelly of Gotham City, Oswald Cobb (played by an unrecognizable Colin Farrell) gave a brutal new dimension to an 80+ year-old Batman villain. MAX’s The Penguin is a surprise hit and on the top of the year’s best list for at least two of the Joe’s. And there’s also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What’s in the Box. Thanks for listening!
