Fascinating Explorations of what church can mean for a non-church generation

With candor and humility, Ben Y-D interviews people who are doing very interesting things in each of their respective spiritual universes. I really appreciate that the podcast is lean and mean, stuffed with insights from people who have poured their lives into their local religious communities. This means that the conversations are often quite practical, and offer some real wisdom for people involved in church planting. Part of the appeal for me is that the perspective is not a traditional conservative evangelical one, though the guests carry a range of beliefs. The conversations avoid mudslinging, favoring a more ecumenical approach. This has been very useful for me as someone who thinks a lot about what form(s) church can and should take, particularly for people who aren't comfortable with attending a traditional church!

Community Building

As a non-religious listener I appreciate these interviews for their thoughtful, engaging and hopeful aspects on community building. The universal themes of belonging, kinship and shared values are basis for all manner of community enrichment making these interviews accessible and rewarding to anyone.

I’m biased, obviously, since I’ve had the honor of being a friend of Ben’s for many years, and now have had the pleasure of being an interviewee, but honestly, his openness, enthusiasm and the genuineness of his interest in others makes these interviews a pleasure to experience.

a window into a world

The stories and insights that these leaders share are enlightening for all those who are interested in what it looks like to follow Jesus today and into the future which looks radically different than the past. As a church planter who is trying to keep church on the cutting edge it is helpful to have a chance to see how others are doing this. I really enjoyed the view into the daily/weekly routines of fascinating characters. This podcast, as all podcasts I subscribe to and follow, expands my world because of the honest ways that people are willing to share of themselves. Ben asks great questions and creates an environment where people feel comfortable sharing their perspective on the reality of their lives and the lives of those they share life with.
