Episode 4: Healing Estrogen Dominance through Diet and Detox Support with Magdalena Wszelaki

Estrogen dominance is a hormonal imbalance that affects many women, often without them realizing it. Symptoms can range from painful periods, mood swings, and fibroids to more serious concerns like breast cancer and thyroid issues. In Episode 4 of the Restorative Nourishment Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Magdalena Wszelaki, a hormone health expert and author of Overcoming Estrogen Dominance and Cooking for Hormone Balance. She shared her personal journey with estrogen-related health struggles and the crucial role diet plays in restoring balance. One of the biggest culprits behind estrogen dominance is poor estrogen metabolism, which is heavily influenced by gut and liver health. When these systems are compromised—due to an inflammatory diet, processed foods, or environmental toxins—proper estrogen metabolism can become imbalanced, leading to unwanted symptoms. Magdalena emphasizes the importance of nutrient-dense, whole foods, particularly cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and radishes, which support estrogen metabolism. She also highlights the need to do an elimination diet, removing dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, corn, and sugar to reduce inflammation and support hormone balance. Supercharge Your Breakfast and Increase Your Energy Levels with May Tom, RD

In Episode 3 of the Restorative Nourishment Podcast we're going be talking about how to upgrade your metabolism and increase your energy with a supercharged breakfast so you can function your best and live your life's purpose. Consuming a high-protein breakfast with at least 25 to 30 grams of protein, at least 10 grams of fiber, and around 30 grams of fat will help stabilize blood sugar throughout the day, keeping you focused, energized, and greatly reduce food cravings for sugar and refined carbs. Welcome to the Restorative Nourishment Podcast

Welcome to the first episode of the Restorative Nourishment Podcast. This is your host, Alissa Segersten, functional medicine nutritionist and owner and founder of nourishingmeals.com, the meal planning solution for your unique dietary needs. The purpose of this podcast is to help you go beyond the constraints of diet and help you tune into this innate wisdom you have to choose the foods that are right for you in each and every moment. We all have this innate ability to tune into this inner wisdom of our bodies and consume a diet that keeps us healthy, balanced and whole. Diet and nutrition are absolutely foundational for restoring balance to the body so healing can take place, but it's often confusing to learn where to begin and what diet is best for you. Part of this podcast is going to help to unravel these diet mysteries and help you choose continuously the foods and the diet that is right for you in each and every moment. Additionally, without strong digestion, a healthy balanced gut microbiome, these are the trillions of bacteria and different microbes that inhabit your gut. The removal of foods your system is launching a reaction to. So these are your food sensitivity reactions to let's say gluten or dairy or corn or soy. This is what your immune system is perceiving as a threat and creating inflammation in your body. Without supporting your detox pathways, adding and missing nutrients, deep sleep, grounding and connection to the earth, as well as healthy relationships, healing can often become very challenging and often impaired. Again, this podcast today is simply a brief overview of what's to come in the future.
