California, September 1975. Within a span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women, working separately, tried to assassinate the president of the United States, Gerald R. Ford. These are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate an American president. The first, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, was already infamous as a prominent follower of cult leader Charles Manson. The second, Sara Jane Moore, was a 45 year-old housewife who infiltrated San Francisco's violent radical underground working undercover for the FBI. The story of one strange and violent Summer, this season on RIP CURRENT.

Great reporting

I recalled the general framework of these stories from my youth. However, I did not know all of the detail you reveal in the series. It is fascinating. Listening to the bonus episodes now. They are so interesting. Thanks for this series.
Memories reawakened

I live in the Bay Area and remember this time period well. Everything was happening here, good and bad. Thank you for bringing back this important time in our political history and reawakening memories. You nailed it.
Riveting!

Fascinating and timely exploration of a little known intersection between the Manson Family and Presidential assassinations. Toby Ball’s research and narration adds new depth and relevance to the topic.
NOTHING BUT BIAS IN THE WATERGATE BONUS EPISODE

The episode would have been fine had the professor did not, ironically, inject his personal politics in the episode. I smirked when he said there was a party switch in the 80s. A handful of democrats switching parties does not a great switch make. Then he talks about the dangers of one party having a ton of power and control. I am thankful the current government did not try to force me to get a shot and state people who refused to get the jab were responsible for the pandemic. Nor have they, per Mark Zuckerberg’s recent letter, forced social media companies to cancel people who’s reporting clashed with the administration’s party line. Lastly, the professor proudly articulated GEN Milley’s unauthorized and (generously watering down the level of betrayal to his office) went outside his authority by contacting the Chinese on his own. I’m retired military and would not have escaped the uniformed code of military justice had I mirrored Milley’s actions. Trump did not start any conflicts during his term. In fact, there was relative peace and prosperity. The wars started up after Trump left office. Just asking for down the middle reporting.
