Proud to listen to someone like Rob.
Your tribute episode is devastatingly beautiful.
RE: Ed Piskor tribute
This is not a review. This is a message to the compassionate, beautiful human being that is Rob Liefeld.
Rob: You did not just scream into “the void”. You were heard.
I heard you.
I heard you all the way from the northern suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota.
And I made sure my wife heard you.
And my 14-year-old son.
And my 11-year-old daughter.
And—hopefully—onward from there.
I was sobbing alongside you in my kitchen while listening to your pleas to humanity to do better. To be better.
Thank you for sharing your rawness.
Your compassion.
Your empathy.
Your gratitude.
Your unabashed sense of joy and positivity.
Your humanity.
(And I know I’m not the only person who feels this way.)
Sending you nothing but good vibes, love, and a big hug. And hopefully a little healing.
To echo back to you: I’m rooting for you! I’m for you, man! I hope you take some time this weekend to relax and be with your wife and kids. Enjoy one of those big Reese’s peanut butter cups! Read a stack of your favorite comics! Watch one of your favorite movies! Whatever you need to do to recharge!
I hope I get to meet you someday (maybe at a con) and get to shake your hand and tell you, “Above all else, I’m a fan of Rob Liefeld the person. The human being.”
Love and respect—
A. Richardson
The Mensch with a Mouth
I’ve been a fan of Rob Liefeld’s since buying X-Force #1 when I was about 13 or so. Not only did his art thrill me but his enthusiasm for comics excited me. I read an interview of Comics Scene magazine with some strange characters on the cover. I could tell Liefeld was the artist, but who were these characters? They were Youngblood, and inside the magazine, Liefeld whipped me up into a frenzy with his plans for this new phenomenon. The interview had such an impact on me that I rebought the issue a few years ago just to read it again. This podcast is that interview but better. I’ve been wanting to express my appreciation for this podcast for awhile, and his latest episode memorializing the great Ed Piskor finally moved me to say something positive. “Uncle” Rob spoke to the broken hearts of Piskor’s fans when few others would and unlike anyone else could. I never thought I’d cry during a Robservations episode. But I did and it helped ease the pain. Rob Liefeld not only has the gift of gab, but he’s a real mensch too. The mensch with a mouth.
